Chapter 33: Hushed Conversations
In the capital's grand ballroom, nobles mingled, their faces masks of politeness. But beneath the surface, whispers flowed like a river.
"I heard Lord Thomas has finally found Lily and the children," Lady Elizabeth whispered to Lord Michael.
"Where?" Lord Michael asked, his eyes scanning the room.
"In a small village on the outskirts of the kingdom," Lady Elizabeth replied. "But Lord Rodale's men are closing in."
Nearby, Lady Victoria leaned in to Lady Catherine.
"I heard Andrew's gone mad, searching for his children. He's convinced they're the key to securing his claim."
Lady Catherine's eyes widened.
"But what about the crown prince? If Andrew's children are legitimate, it could mean disaster for our family."
Lord James, standing nearby, overheard the conversation.
"I wouldn't worry, ladies," he said with a sly smile. "Lord Rodale will ensure the crown prince's claim remains secure. At any cost."
The nobles exchanged uneasy glances, sensing the undercurrents of power and deceit.
In a corner, Venus stood alone, her eyes fixed on the crowd. She knew her father's plans, and the weight of secrets threatened to suffocate her.
As the night wore on, the whispers grew louder, a symphony of gossip and intrigue. The capital nobility danced around the truth, unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows.
