YOOYEON AND SEOYEON LEFT THE EXHAUSTING BRUNCH and ended up talking a walk.
As Seoyeon closed the front door, she didn't speak until they started walking. "You always gaslight people into spilling out their guts to you?" She asked, not sparing a glance at the girl beside her.
Yooyeon sighed and stayed silent for a moment before eventually speaking quietly, "It's not like that."
She hummed. "So what is it like, then?" Seoyeon asked, still looking ahead of her as she walked.
"I was told the morning after i met you." Yooyeon explained simply, her arms crossed infront of her stomach.
As much as Seoyeon wanted to believe her, she found it a little hard to. "How am i supposed to know you're not lying, and didn't follow me to that park, or something?" Seoyeon reasoned, trying her best to sort out her own disbelief.
Yooyeon looked over at her for the first time since the brunch, examining Seoyeon's facial expression. She spoke quietly, "Do you really think i'd do that?" She asked, almost so genuinely that it didn't sound rhetorical at all.
She continued, "I've been told- Many... Many times, that i'm very..." She paused, trying to find a way to not sugarcoat her words, "Awkward?"
As she questioned her words, her eyebrows furrowed. "Yeah... I guess awkward would be the right word. But, anyway- What i'm trying to tell you is that there is no way in hell that i would ever talk to someone that confidently if i knew i'd see them again."
Seoyeon took her words into consideration, glancing over at her for the first time. She saw the look in her eyes, properly this time, and started to believe her.
She was silent for a moment, finding something humorous about the way Yooyeon spoke. "Never?"
Yooyeon shook her head, suddenly trying to hide her own smile by turning her head away.
Silence engulfed the two again as they walked. Still, they didn't know where they were headed, but they just continued.
"You know," Seoyeon started, "I really felt like i died and came back to life when you showed up like that."
Yooyeon laughed and held her hands up in defence, "It's not my fault! You were about to fall off the swing from sleep." She reasoned, "Would you have rathered i let you fall?"
"Well..." Seoyeon dragged out her words and smiled, pretending to consider the question.
Yooyeon looked at her with raised eyebrows, awaiting her answer. Seoyeon shook her head with a quiet chuckle, "No, i guess not."
Once they reached a dead end in a random street, they decided to head back. Neither had their phones on them, so they didn't know exactly what time it was. But they guessed it was around half four.
On the way back, they came across a small market and went inside to buy a few snacks. Yooyeon opened hers straight away and began eating, as if she hadn't had anything to eat in five days.
"Jeez... What, didn't you eat lunch?" Seoyeon asked as she watched Yooyeon eat her snack. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like she was shoving it down her throat. But rather, she was eating it very quickly.
Yooyeon blushed and shook her head, covering her mouth with her hand as she chewed. She swallowed, "No, i've just not..." She trailed off for a second, "My parents don't buy stuff like this. Nor let me."
"Oh." Was all Seoyeon could say as they stared at each other. She looked down at her shoes for a moment, but then lifted her head again.
She placed her hand on Yooyeon's forearm and gave her a smile. One that seemed like it could stop armies from shooting bullets into Yooyeon's heart.
"I'll make sure there's enough ice cream to last you until you're seventy." Seoyeon said, looking ahead of her, a small pout laying on her lips.
Something about the situation made Yooyeon feel emotional. It was a rare occasion, really. She didn't know when, but hot tears made their way down her face and cheeks.
It was funny, because when her first pet passed away as a child, she didn't cry. When she broke her arm in fifth grade, she didn't cry. When she had gotten a B in Physics, she didn't cry. When she realised that her whole life had been planned out before her, she didn't cry.
But now, as a woman that she met a mere week ago manages to present such a heart warming smile, she cries.
As she attempts to wipe her face with her hands discretely, Seoyeon sees the motion from her peripheral vision and glances over.
Her eyebrows furrow and she stops walking, placing her hands on Yooyeon's arms. As Seoyeon wore a small black cardigan, she tugged at the sleeves and tilted Yooyeon's chin upwards, gently with her fingers.
Seoyeon chuckled quietly, using her sleeve to wipe Yooyeon's face clean. "I didn't know i could move one to tears." She joked, now using her bare fingers to make sure her fiancé's skin was dry.
Yooyeon smiled lightly, trying to sniff through her now blocked nose. "Shut up."
The doctor backs away slightly, now embarassed. She sighs, "Ugh, this is so embarassing."
"What? How is crying embarassing?" Seoyeon asked genuinely, her arms dropping to her sides.
Yooyeon shook her head and sniffled, "You don't understand..." She glanced at Seoyeon, "I never cry. Like, ever. I don't even remember the last time i did."
Seoyeon looked at her sympathetically, which was something she found herself doing a few more times that she should've this afternoon.
"So?" She asked, "Just because you don't cry often, it doesn't mean that it should be embarassing." She reasoned, looking up at the slightly taller girl.
"At least i know you're not some kind of robot." She shrugged.
Yooyeon raised an eyebrow and a confused smile formed on her face, "What?"
"I'm genuinely not kidding, me and my sister came up with theories about you being a robot. You just sound so perfect, like, not human." Seoyeon joked.
However, Yooyeon's eyes wandered as she thought, "Hm, well, i don't think robot is the right word. And i assure you that i'm... Not perfect." She admitted quietly.
"We'll see about that." Seoyeon chuckled, shyly hooking her arm through Yooyeon's as they neared the house.
