THE NEXT DAY AT MH HIGH SCHOOL, Chaewon sat down silently at the cafeteria table, where her friends were sat.
It was raining outside and it was slightly darker than usual. Dull, might be the correct word.
"What's up with the vibes today, dude?" Yeonji whispered quietly to her best friend as she nudged her slightly.
Soomin shrugged, furrowing her eyebrows at her best friend. She turned her head towards the two girls infront of them, clearing her throat, "Uh... So, how's life?"
No one answered.
Soomin nodded, "Oh, that's amazing." She continued nodding, "Ah, how was my day? It was just great." She smiled sarcastically, shoving a spoonful of rice into her mouth.
Chaewon sighed and placed her head into her hand, "I'm sorry, i'm just really pissed off right now." She apologised, giving a look to her friends through her eyes.
"Why?" Hayeon spoke, quietly, for the first time the whole day.
Chaewon turned her head to look at her best friend, then looked back down at her food again. "I broke up with Hyoseok."
Since her friends were listening intently, supposedly for what the reason may be, Chaewon continued, "He's a dick."
"What happened?" Yeonji asked, taking a sip of her orange juice.
"After the... Fight, i went to talk to him." Chaewon started, quietly, "But he just kept talking about himself. I asked him what happened, but he just kept blaming it on Jungsoo. Then when i finally got him to spill, i just decided that he was a dick."
"What was his reason?" Soomin asked, not even eating her lunch anymore because she's so engrossed in the drama.
Chaewon swallowed and spoke hesitantly, "Uh, he blamed it on me."
"Are you fucking joking?" Hayeon asked as she mindlessly played with her food, fork in hand. "I know for a fact that it's not your fault, Chaewon."
"... He said that..." She paused, "Jungsoo was telling him that he didn't deserve me." Chaewon said.
She looked thoughtless. She looked like she didn't know what to say. She looked guilty.
Chaewon continued, "And then afterwards, he- He brought up Hayeon." She swallowed, "He said that she was always there and i didn't give him enough attention."
"Chaewonie." Hayeon tried softly.
"And then he started getting in my face. Just getting closer and closer-"
"Chaewon!" Hayeon shouted, allowing a few heads to turn in her direction. However, she didn't care if anyone was watching. "It's not your fucking fault, okay? As much as i hate to agree with Jungsoo, Hyoseok doesn't deserve you. None of those boys do."
Chaewon listened silently, locking eyes with Hayeon.
"Wait," Hayeon shook her head slightly, as if she suddenly just clocked onto what Chaewon said, "He got up in your face?!" She breathed, "That motherfucker." She mumbled, about to get off her seat.
Before Hayeon could run away, Chaewon grabbed her hand and took her away with her.
Soomin and Yeonji sat in their seats and watched them walk away. Soomin breathed in, "Yikes."
"CHAEWON?" HAYEON ASKED CONFUSEDLY as Chaewon dragged her out to an empty staircase in their school.
"Hayeon," Chaewon said as she leaned her back against the wall, her arms crossed. She watched Hayeon sit on a step and continued, "Stop being so fucking reckless all the time. Please. It's not doing anyone or anything good. Last time you beat someone up, you were let off easy. But next time, they're gonna do something about it for real. Do you really want that, Hayeon-ah?" She asked.
Hayeon didn't answer at first, but when Chaewon went to talk again, Hayeon cut her off. "I don't care." She said lowly, "I don't give a flying fuck about what they do." She scoffed, rising from the staircase, "Not like my so called parents are gonna give any, either."
"I do." Chaewon said, uncrossing her arms and taking a step away from the wall. "I give every fucks about what happens to you. Is that not enough?"
Hayeon swallowed and looked away, wandering mindlessly around the area. She didn't know how to answer. She was always filled with anger and rage and she brought everything and everyone into her little tornado of emotions.
It wasn't something she could control. Not at the moment anyway. "No." Hayeon said, barely above a whisper. "It's not enough. I can't help it, okay?" Her voice began to sound croaky, "I- I just need to be alone right now."
As she walked away, Chaewon leaned against the wall with her hand, suddenly feeling unwell. Her head was pounding, her stomach was rumbling and her heart was aching.
She angrily kicked the vending machine beside her, "Fucking idiot." She mumbled, referring to herself.
She was angry, which was something she usually wasn't. But this time it wasn't at anyone else, but at herself.
