How to Measure an Ocean

Inasa looked around the training ground. It was one of UA's internal grounds and he knew that it had been booked by All Might so that no one would interrupt. There were only a few people here and quite a bit of equipment.

Principal Nezu was present, as was Koi. Inasa was surprised to see Sir Nighteye was present. All Might's sidekick didn't look happy about something and was standing against the far wall with a sour expression. Inasa had been asked if he wanted his mentor present but had decided that Shadowcrawler had enough incriminating pictures of him learning to better use Whirlwind. There was no reason to give the Hero more material as he learned to use One For All.

"Thank you for coming," All Might said. He was in his small form and had explained that while he could still hold his muscle form, now that he'd given away One For All eventually the quirk would fade from his system entirely.

"This is going to be interesting," Nezu replied.

Sir Nighteye just glowered at the Number One Hero and Koi chuckled. It was obvious that Sir Nighteye wasn't happy and Inasa had a sinking feeling he knew exactly what the man was upset about.

Him.

The man probably wanted someone else for One For All or was upset that he hadn't been consulted. It could be anything but All Might had made it very clear to him that One For All was his and he was now the one who decided what the quirk did. Inasa's meditation on One For All had shown him that the quirk had a purpose and he thought he knew what it was. But even then, he was still the one who had to fulfill the purpose or not, as he chose.

"Today we want you to start using One For All," All Might told him. "I had no trouble but-" he shrugged as if to say that he was wise enough not to make the assumption.

"I have felt it," Inasa confirmed.

"Good," All Might said. "I want you to hit that punching bag, using One For All... but maybe not all of it?" He added, sounding uncertain.

"Why not all of it?" Inasa asked curiously.

Sir Nighteye huffed. "Are you a fool?" he asked pointedly.

"He's young," Inasa was saved from answering when Koi did it for him.

"And apparently a fool," Sir Nighteye repeated.

"Ah, I love it when youth forget that experience confers knowledge and eagerly look forward to the day when they finally realise their folly," Koi snapped.

Inasa wasn't the only one who needed a moment to translate her sentence but when he did, he schooled his features into a neutral expression. Sir Nighteye wasn't as restrained. "It's always a shame when the elderly think they understand," he muttered.

"Mirai!" All Might snapped. It was obvious from his tone he was disappointed in his sidekick but Sir Nighteye's expression didn't change and he said nothing more.

As Inasa watched All Might sighed. "One For All is a stockpiling quirk," the Number One Hero said gently, turning towards him. "It gathers power for those holding it and I have held it for a very long time. You are fit, young and strong, so I believe you will be able to handle One For All's power but possibly not the first time you use it. So try to use just a bit of the power. It will also allow you to better gauge how much of One For All's power you will need at times."

That made sense and Inasa nodded to show he understood as he moved to the punching bag. It was kind of like Whirlwind. He didn't always need the full power of his quirk. It stood to reason that One For All was the same. He reached for the feeling of One For All in him and felt it actually rush to his call. It actually felt- "Too much!" Inasa said as he released the quirk.
