In the dim light, everyone saw a dark, bluish infant clinging to Wang Shanshan, its pitch-black eyes scanning them. At that moment, the fear in their hearts threatened to shatter them completely.

"Ahhh!"

A chorus of screams erupted as panic took hold. Instinctively, everyone bolted away from Wang Shanshan, desperate to escape.

"Damn it! That ghost infant couldn't get to me, so it's targeting others now?" Yang Jian clenched his fists tightly, feeling utterly helpless.

He wanted to save her, but the thought of approaching that monstrous entity terrified him. The eerie eye on his body only granted him the ability to see through the darkness of the ghost domain, allowing him to survive by pure instinct. But it offered no real means to confront the ghost infant.

"Run," he thought, nearly turning to flee without hesitation.

"Gghh... Help me..."

Wang Shanshan's face was twisted in agony. Like a fish gasping for air, she struggled to breathe, her hand weakly reaching out toward Yang Jian as if clinging to a final hope.

Though Yang Jian didn't turn back, the eye on the back of his head witnessed everything—the pained expression on Wang Shanshan's face, her desperate plea for help. He halted his steps, unable to continue running.

This scene was eerily similar to when Fang Jing had shoved him into the restroom, sacrificing him for his own survival.

Wang Shanshan was still conscious, overwhelmed with fear yet desperately hoping someone would help her in this dire moment.

"If I abandon her now, how am I any different from Fang Jing? Using a classmate's life to buy time against a malevolent spirit just to save myself?"

Yang Jian's mind wrestled with the decision. "Wang Shanshan isn't like Duan Peng and Zheng Fei. They deserved their fate for trying to kill me to save themselves."

"And now that I'm technically a ghost handler, with the power of a malevolent spirit, I'm not just an ordinary person anymore. Saving her might not mean my death."

In an instant, countless thoughts flashed through his mind.

The ghostly eye on the back of his head continued to observe Wang Shanshan, watching her struggle and the way her arm slowly fell limp.

If he didn't act now, Wang Shanshan would be strangled to death by that ghost infant.

"Damn it."

Cursing under his breath, Yang Jian turned around and charged at the ghost infant, delivering a powerful punch to its head without hesitation.

If this were uploaded online, people would surely criticize him for violently attacking a baby. But this was no ordinary infant.

The ghost infant's head caved in slightly from the punch but suffered no real harm. Its pitch-black eyes fixed on Yang Jian with a bizarre intensity.

"Waaagh!"

The ghost infant screeched in fury, releasing its grip on Wang Shanshan and lunging at Yang Jian instead. Its face split open as its mouth stretched unnaturally wide, far beyond human limits, and clamped down on Yang Jian's arm, swallowing it halfway.

A chilling cold and sticky sensation enveloped Yang Jian's arm, as if it were being sucked into a black hole. No matter how much he struggled, he couldn't pull his arm free. Worse still, he felt himself being slowly drawn into that gaping, pitch-black maw.

"Cough, cough..."

Wang Shanshan, nearly unconscious, collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air.

"Am I going to be eaten?"
