Having a ghost appear in your home would make even the strongest-willed person incapable of staying there. But in order to retrieve that red newspaper, Yang Jian had no choice but to take the risk. This might be his only chance to prevent the ghost inside him from fully awakening.
"I'll wait here for that thing and see if it comes back," Yang Jian hesitated for a long while before finally gritting his teeth and deciding to stay. He was waiting for the ghost to return, fully aware of the danger.
Knowing there's a ghost and still daring to wait for it to come back requires immense courage. Yang Jian was fully prepared, even embracing the possibility of death.
At this point, running away would be nothing more than a slow form of suicide.
Once the eye inside him grows beyond control...
While Yang Jian was waiting for the ghost at home, in another part of Dachang City, in a high-end residential complex, Wang Shanshan was facing her own ordeal.
Since the ghostly incident at school two days ago, she hadn't stepped out of the house. She'd been hiding at home for the past two days, because she'd begun to notice that something was off.
In the bathroom, the water cascaded down, flowing over her pale, tender skin. But Wang Shanshan's eyes were filled with terror and a hint of madness as she scrubbed furiously at a spot on her neck with a toilet brush.
The young girl's delicate skin had turned red from the excessive scrubbing. Under normal circumstances, no one could endure such pain.
But Wang Shanshan seemed oblivious to it, instead increasing the pressure as she scrubbed, the fear in her eyes growing more intense.
Soon, the skin on her neck cracked open, and crimson blood began to seep out, mixing with the warm water and staining the bathroom floor red.
No matter how hard she scrubbed, no matter how much blood flowed, the two dark, tiny handprints on her neck remained clearly visible, as if they had grown into her flesh—a birthmark that couldn't be washed away.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Wang Shanshan's mother, Wang Haiyan, sat on the sofa, anxiously checking the time on her watch. A worried expression clouded her face.
"She's been in the bathroom for over two hours, and she already took a bath this morning... Could she be sick? Is there something wrong with her body?"
Wang Shanshan's father, Wang Bin, also looked concerned. "She's been acting strange ever since she came home from school yesterday morning. She hardly eats, locks herself in her room all day... She even insists on keeping all the lights in the house on during the day because she's so afraid of the dark. And now she's been in the bath all day. If this keeps up, we should take her to see a doctor tomorrow."
"Honey, did you find out what happened at school the night before last? I've been trying to call the teacher, but the phone won't go through," Wang Haiyan said.
"I went to the school yesterday. Something definitely happened. The place is on lockdown, and all the students have been sent on forced leave. They're not saying when school will resume, and I ran into a lot of parents while I was there."
Wang Bin took a drag of his cigarette, frowning deeply, his expression heavy with worry.
"The other parents said their kids never came home after evening study that night. They've been missing ever since, and they can't be reached by phone. And it's not just one or two—it's a lot of students."
Wang Haiyan was shocked. "How could this happen?"
"Something definitely went down at that school, but we're still in the dark about it. I wanted to ask Shanshan, but given her current state, I didn't want to pressure her."
