CHAPTER 15: His other side?

-    Bella Richards   -

“Ladies and Gentlemen! May I have your attention please?” The loud mic from the stage stole our attention. “I’d like to invite all of our guests to the front of the stage.”

Right now I was with my hubby and they were still talking business, until now that the mic has announced it.  Calvin heaved a sigh and pulled me closer a little, “guess it’s time for the event to end finally.” his whisper seemed relaxed and I could tell that dear hubby was tired and wanted to go home.

“Let's go.” He spoke again to me and looked at me with his hazel eyes which held that comfort I yearned for.

I gave a small nod and we both walked back towards the area where the stage was present, practically inside the hall. Groups of men and women gathered in front of the stage, and took their places in front of the small table or sat in their chairs of their dining table, which were in front of the stage.

We stood by one small table, in front of  Matthew's and my bestie’s table. They both waved at us with a smile of their own. I smiled but Mr hubby threw a bored look at Matthew. Matthew didn't react, looking used to the treatment; while Christiana rolled her eyes and posed her sole focus on me. I also noticed how Matthew didn't get too close to Christiana, maintaining a distance required for two strangers. It impressed me in a way. I could give Mr Matthew valid points for that.

And then my eyes traveled towards that creepy man as he came walking…with his creepy stares that pierced through my soul, made me feel disgusted and I wanted to possibly slap his face.

And then they walked across us. By reflex, I moved closer to Calvin, who had already wrapped his protective hands around my waist. That unwavering sense of unsafety flowed through my nerves as the old man's hands brushed mine. It was obvious enough that he wanted to touch me, which wasn't a thing to be proud of. Calvin's hands had been gripping my waist and in a protective way and his stare prevented him from getting any closer to me. I was very thankful for that, indeed. I did not want this man any closer.

The speech continued and the birthday girl - well - looked a little anxious. I could sense that her smile was fake. She looked annoyed and a little bothered whenever her father touched her, but It was subtle though. I could tell that some kind of show is going on here.

“Well well. Enough of the boring talks, let's begin with a little ball here! c’mon , start the music!” the emcee spoke, whom I recognized from a TV show, and my brows furrowed. What dance? and why was I not aware of this?

I looked at Calvin who looked as baffled as me. I got the sign that he also had no idea about this. He looked at me a little apologetically.

“I’m sorry, but I had no idea about this.”he spoke and I nodded slowly.

“It's okay...You didn't know.”I smiled slightly to which he nodded.

“c’mon! Why's everyone standing so dull! get the music started!”the emcee spoke again, and we both looked at each other. Calvin heaved a sigh as he saw many people gathering there with smiles; on top of it, Matthew and Christiana were willing to share a dance as well! We both knew we had to go there as some people did give us weird stares (not like we care). Well, I knew he didn’t like all these but it wouldn’t hurt to enjoy a little here.
