Evie"My dad is wondering if he should get the sleds out. Do you know if you guys are stopping by this month?" I ask my uncle as we stroll around the rink, his players occupied with practice in the middle.
I can spot my old roommates within the bunch, but focus my attention on one as I catch him glancing at me from time to time.
"Not sure yet, the ticket prices are skyrocketing each day. Jill seems hellbent on going though, and you know how she is, once she's set her sights on something, she does everything to get it." I listen to him explain.
"How is Jill?" I ask about his wife.
"She's good. Prepping her students for winter break as usual around this time." he says.
I nod but go back to my original point, "So what should I tell my dad?"
"Tell him no for now," A whistle echoes through the barren arena as my uncle's assistant coach has gathered all of their players at center ice. "I gotta go, tell him I'll call him soon though." I nod before my uncle doubles back. "Oh, and stick around for a few after, I have a surprise for you."
"Surprise?" I question him but all he does is smile and hop onto the ice.
Tapping away at my phone I take another lap around the rink as the guys finish up practice. When I stop at the bench that acts as an entrance to the ice, I'm met by my favorite brunette. "You come to drool over me or what, princess?"
I rolled my eyes at him, "By the amount of glances I caught I'm pretty sure you were the one drooling." Alex leans himself over the boards and huffs a breath while pushing his damp hair out of the way. "Feeling better?" I ask him.
"I feel great," he responds.
It's been a few days since Alex came down with whatever he caught. After passing out that day he only missed one full practice which seemed to hurt him more than his poor immune system was.
Today's his first practice back and he's thrown himself back into the swing of things. I won't lie, part of me was nervous at first, but watching him for the last fifteen minutes cleared that all.
"Are you still coming tomorrow?" Alex asks me, referring to the big game they've been worrying about all week. In fact, the entire school seems to know how big of a game this is. I was told if you weren't a student it was almost impossible to buy a ticket.
"Wouldn't miss it." I walk up and press my lips against his shortly. "Reese is already asking me what kind of alcohol the team likes."
"Why?"
"For your victory shots," I let out a small laugh. "She's already planning the celebration."
A genuine smile stretches across Alex's face and a deep chuckle leaves his lips. God, I like the sound of it way too much. "Sounds to me like we've turned both of you into hockey groupies."
"Me? Maybe. Reese? I think she only enjoys watching the fights." I admit to him.
"Sounds like her," Alex nods as I look deeply into his gorgeous blue eyes. "What are you sticking around for?"
I lean around him to see the empty ice and my uncle nowhere to be seen. "My uncle said he had a surprise for me, but I have no idea where he went."
Alex's eyes flicker with a sense of realization before pecking me on the cheek. "Stay here."
I watch him in confusion as he skates over to the other bench and reaches across the boards to grab something. When he comes back I see him carrying a pair of skates that look very familiar to me.
