NINETEEN.

Death is peaceful... Easy. Life is harder.

I've never given much thought to how I would die. But dying in the place of someone I love, seems like a good way to go. The Volturi may have lost their queen that day, but I know they will remain strong, they always have.

Opening my eyes again is like nothing I ever expected. The feeling of nothing but serenity surrounds me on the empty bridge under my feet. The water below the bridge flows smoothly over the rocks downstream.

My observations are interrupted by the sound of an engine rumbling up the road. Turning my head to the source of the sound, I notice none other than the old Impala cruising down the bridge towards me. It stops right in the center of the bridge a few feet away from me as two people step out of the front seats.

"I told you she'd be here" a familiar voice says to the other person.

"Yeah, yeah. You're soo smart Dean" the other person says sarcastically.

I instantly realize who they are, Sam and Dean. They smile knowingly as Sam opens his arms invitingly. I run into his arms as he lifts me into the air and spins us around before putting me down again. Once on my feet, I give Dean a hug as well.

"You've gotten so big since I held you last" Sam says softly while giving me his proud grandfather smile.

"What is this place?" I ask no one in particular.

"Heaven, you died Skyla" Dean explains quietly while they exchange a nervous look.

"No, no, I can't be dead. The Volturi and my mates, I need to be back with-" The panic inside me starts to rise as I remember everything that happened.

"Sky, calm down, you're not fully dead. You'll just be here with us for a few days. It'll only feel like an hour here but down there on Earth, it'll have been days by the time you return. Let's not dwell on what happened as there's lots to talk about before you go" Sam says reassuringly while opening the back door and gesturing for me to get in.

My mind takes a moment to process his words before deciding to just roll with it and climb into the backseat. They both hop back in before continuing their drive to seemingly nowhere.

"So, where are we going?" I break the silence as they turn to look at me for a brief second before smiling and looking out the windows.

"You'll see" is all Sam says.

I sigh from their reluctance to explain anything but as my eyes drift toward the window, I begin to recognize my surroundings. It looks like... home. Sure enough, Dean parks the car right outside of my childhood home. As I step out, the front door suddenly swings open as a figure begins running out of the house towards me. Right before she gets to me, I recognize her as my mom. She pulls me into her arms tightly as I hug her back just as hard.

"I've missed you so much honey, I could never be happier than I am at this moment" she whispers into my hair before pressing a soft kiss to my head.

"I've missed you too mom" I whisper back as my tears slide down my cheeks.

She pushes me back and wipes my tears before holding my shoulders gently.

"I should be scolding you to high hell for going against our wishes and hunting, but I understand why you did it. Still, no more once you take care of business" she states sternly but the smile she tries to hide is obvious.

"Of course" I say softly as my smile remains.

"So, about those mates of yours" she begins with an eyebrow raised
