jooyeon returned to gunil's place that day. the latter immediately sensed that something was wrong.

apparently, jooyeon wasn't very good at hiding it. "hyeongjun found out what i am" he muttered.

"isn't that a good thing?" seungmin asked in return, just entering the room after having used the bathroom, throwing himself on gunil's bed, where the elder was already sitting.

jooyeon sighed. "well, i wish" he started. "told him that i am his guardian angel. now he thinks i let him suffer on purpose. i will never find out what's wrong with him at this rate..."

the angel sat down in front of the two, deeming the floor as more comfortable. gunil and seungmin exchanged some worried glances before looking back at jooyeon.

neither of them has ever seen jooyeon so... sad? drained? "my human self died, saving his wife and kids from soldiers" jooyeon continued.

"and in this life i can't even save a boy?"

jooyeon didn't notice the tear running down his face, until seungmin stood up from the bed and knelt down across him.

he wiped away the tear. "jooyeon, relax. take your time" seungmin exclaimed in a soft tone. "we've been here for just a month, such things take so much time.

and so what if there's a setback? it doesn't mean you shouldn't try again. we're scientists, aren't you used to restarting?"

seungmin was right. researching about humans, they made false hypotheses all the time, erasing their progress and being forced to start from zero.

shouldn't jooyeon be patient enough?

"yeah, but failing our tests can't result in the deletion of my existence."

right. jooyeon was supposed to help hyeongjun. neither of them knew if the boy had any plans on killing himself, because if he did, jooyeon would die, as well.

"hyeongjun has been through a lot, i'm sure he can handle this information" gunil added with a soft encouraging smile.

"i can talk to him, too. if you think that would help? he definitely needs his space from you at the moment, though."

jooyeon nodded, yet he still felt hopeless. like his curiosity and happiness faded into nothingness.

like he has never been the happy and excited jooyeon he always was.
