Like most nights, Jamison had a nightmare. There were a variety that he experienced, but this one was of being trapped in a small, dark room, slowly suffocating. However, instead of succumbing to the darkness like normal, there was a knock on the door. He froze at the sound of the door unlocking, the hinges squeaking as it opened, and covered his face with his hands, afraid that he had found him.
"Hey, there you are," Dream Elliot said, reaching his hand out to him. "I've been looking for you."
Dropping his hands, he gasped at the sight of Elliot's smiling face. "It's not safe out there," he whispered, standing and clutching his hand tightly, trying to pull him into the room. "He's looking for me."
"I'll keep you safe," Elliot promised, gently coaxing him towards the door. "We'll just take it one step at a time."
"Okay," he breathed and followed him out into the light.
Stirring awake, Jamison's eyes slowly adjusted to the low light coming in from around the edges of the curtains. Elliot was still facing him, just the same as when they'd gone to bed, and was breathing gently, a picture of peace. He'd never shared a bed with anyone, and for as jarring as he'd expected waking up with someone to be, he felt nothing but calm seeing Elliot's face, especially as the first thing he saw upon waking. Wanting to check the time, he began to shift slowly, trying to keep from waking him, but failed, Elliot's eyes opening and blinking sleepily.
"'Morning," he murmured, breaking into a sleepy smile at the sight of Jamison lying across from him. While he'd woken up to the faces of his friends before, it was different to wake up and have the first thing you see be the person that you deeply covet. Amongst the many unfair things about Jamison's limitations, another was that he couldn't roll closer to him, wrapping an arm around him as he fell back asleep, pressed against his back. Nor being able to lean in and kiss him, or run a hand through his bedhead.
"Good morning," Jamison whispered, returning the smile and getting comfortable again. "But you don't have to wake up with me."
"Don't start this early," he said, yawning loudly, his eyes urging him to go back to sleep.
"Don't start what?"
"Trying to push me away," he mumbled, pulling the blanket further up over him.
"I'm not," he said with a pout. "You just look really sleepy."
The sight of Jamison sticking his bottom lip out with his brows just slightly knit together was enough to make him want to keep his eyes wide open. "I'm not an utterly adorable sight to wake up to?"
He'd only been awake for a couple of minutes, and his cheeks were already flushed. "Surprisingly, you're a calming sight to wake up to."
"What, did you expect to be horrified to see me or something?"
"Are you always this sassy in the morning?"
"Guess you'll have to sleep over again and find out for yourself," he teased, yawning again.
"I'm sure you'll make it happen if that's what you want," he teased back, unable to hide his grin. The comment bordered on flirtatious, though that wasn't the intent.
Elliot's smile widened, and he nodded; he certainly would ensure that Jamison returned as soon as possible. Waking up to him made him melt. "Did you sleep well?"
Yawning, he nodded slowly. "Yeah, like really well compared to normal." Not only did the outcome of the dream help elevate his mood, but the sleep he'd gotten had also been of much higher quality.
Warmth bloomed through Elliot's chest upon hearing that. "Sweet dreams of me?"
"Well, it's funny that you mention that," he said, covering his face with one hand. "You were in my dream."
