Elliot sat at his dining table, rapidly typing out Jamison's paper. Everyone would be coming over soon and he was going to be distracted by their questions. Questions he wasn't particularly excited to hear. But he owed them answers and sometimes being uncomfortable is the sacrifice one has to make for friendship.

A few minutes later he heard the familiar clacking of Katie's shoes. "Heya," she said, taking her seat at the table. "How're you doing?"

"Good, you?" Glancing up from his laptop, he offered her a smile.

"Pretty good, just kicked a midterm's ass," she gushed, though her not doing well would've been shocking. While Vera was considered the brains of the group, Katie was the smartest academically and was casually majoring in physics to prove it.

"No surprise there," he nodded, going back to typing. He was nearly done and hoped to finish before the rest of them arrived.

"So...how's Jam?"

Elliot sighed and looked back up at her. "He's okay. I think I'm just going to wait until everyone's here to field any questions about...that stuff. I don't want to have to repeat myself too much."

"That's fair," she shrugged and pulled out her phone, her eyes going wide. "Oh my god..." she whispered, her eyes scanning over the text over and over again. "Oh my god."

"What's wrong?" Elliot glanced up but then looked back down at Jamison's paper.

"Wren texted me and asked me out on a date out of the blue," she said quietly, her thumbs rapidly typing out a message that she then deleted and retyped it out. "Did you tell Jam to say something to her?"

Pausing, Elliot looked up at her. "First, that's great and congrats," he said. "Second, rude, but no, I didn't. Jamison is his own person and after everything that happened, he's been a lot more open with his thoughts and feelings. Maybe he spilled because he thought you both needed a kick in the ass."

Taking a deep breath, she hit send and then quickly put her phone down on the table, screen side down, almost as if she was afraid of whatever Wren would say.

"Well, I'm glad he did," she said, looking back down at her notebook, not that she could focus now. "I mean, it was kind of a secret so I guess I should be mad but how can I be when she asked me out?!"

Shrugging, Elliot turned back to the paper and continued typing it out, nearly at the end. Now having read through it, he was pretty impressed. Jamison was clearly smart or he wouldn't have been accepted at UFG, but his paper was beautifully succinct and well-written, and he completely understood the topic that Jamison was writing about. Although he'd written it out by hand, he had no spelling errors and his grammar was almost perfect too. 'Looks, personality, and brains, Jam? What don't you have going for you? Well, I guess there's the trauma but that can't be helped. For either of us.'

Elliot hadn't realized he'd been on the last page and turned to the next one, his brows raising at the sight of a sketch of his face, a wide smile across his features, like the second before he'd fully break out in a laugh.

Around it were smaller drawings of specific parts of his face. There was one of his mouth smirking and another of his lips being pursed together. One where his eyes looked more concerned than happy, and one where they were wide with surprise and excitement.

The only words that were on the page were:

-radiant smile

-playful smirk, like he knows something you don't

-eyes should glow like sunshine breaking through the clouds after a storm

-makes you never want to look away
