AIESHA'S POV
Ma tutulog na sana ko nang mag vibrate yung phone ko, and it's a text message from an unknown number.
Maxine? I sat up, blinking at the screen in surprise. Why was she reaching out to me now, and why did it seem so urgent?
But before I could second-guess myself, I quickly typed back,
I dressed quietly, slipping out of the house without alerting anyone, and went to the old library.
Pushing the creaky door open, I stepped inside.
"Maxine?" I called out softly, unsure of what to expect.
She looked up, her dark eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my stomach flip. "You came," she said quietly.
"Yeah, your message sounded pretty serious." I walked closer but stopped a few feet away, suddenly feeling the tension between us.
"It is," she replied.
"What's going on?" I asked, trying to make sense of why she was acting so differently.
This wasn’t the confident, tough Maxine that everyone else saw. This was someone raw, almost hesitant.
Maxine took a deep breath, running a hand through her hair before she looked at me again. "I shouldn’t be doing this, Aiesha. I shouldn’t be dragging you into this mess."
