Location: Luxembourg ( Lazzaro's Empire Hospital)
Third Person's POV
At a large private hospital on the outskirts, Maxine’s mother, Xyrine Lazzaro, moved with calm authority through the halls.
She had spent years building this hospital, turning it into one of the most respected medical institutions in Europe.
Now, it was more than just a business, it was a reflection of her life’s work, a symbol of the Lazzaro family’s power and influence abroad.
It was an instinct she had developed from years, dahil sa buhay na meron sila ng pamilya niya naging mas aware na siya sa paligid niya.
Meanwhile, across town, her two eldest children, Enzo and Parcia Lazzaro, were sitting in a café, at wala silang ka alam alam sa nangyari sa mommy nila.
They were both in Luxembourg to support their mother with the hospital’s expansion, overseeing the details that yheir mother didn’t have time to manage.
“Mr. Lazzaro,” the voice on the other end was panicked, “it’s your mother. She’s been shot.”
“What do you mean?” Enzo’s voice was tight, controlled despite the rising panic. “Where is she?”
“She’s at the hospital, in critical condition. We’re doing everything we can, but it’s bad. You need to come now.”
She’s in critical condition.”
Parcia’s expression froze for a moment at agad narin siyang tumayo. “We need to get to the hospital,” she said, grabbing her coat. Her voice was steady, but the fear was evident in her eyes. She didn’t need to ask questions, didn’t need to process it, she just moved.
They rushed to the hospital in silence, their minds racing with fear and uncertainty.
Parcia stood rigid beside him, her eyes focused on the doctors through the glass. “Who did this?” she whispered, fury starting to mix with her fear. “Who would dare?”
Enzo shook his head. “I don’t know, but we’ll find out. No one touches our family and gets away with it.”
The next step was the hardest, calling their father. Enzo’s hands shook slightly as he dialed their dad number, knowing this news would send him into a rage.
Their dad had always been the impenetrable force of the family, but Enzo knew this would cut him deeper than anything else ever could.
“Dad,” Enzo said when Mikael answered. “It’s Mom. She’s been shot.”
There was a heavy silence on the other end before Mikael’s cold, measured voice responded. “Where is she?”
“She’s in surgery now, at the hospital in Luxembourg. It’s bad, but she’s still fighting.”
Mikael didn’t say much after that. He simply told them to keep him updated and hung up.
“Give me a minute,” pigil niya kay cole, stepping out of the ring to answer the call. “Kuya Enzo? What’s up?”
“Max,” Enzo’s voice was heavy, strained. “It’s Mom.”
“What happened?”
“She’s been shot. She’s in critical condition.”
The words hit her like a physical blow. For a moment, Maxine couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. Her mind refused to process the information. “Shot?” she repeated, as if saying it out loud would make it less real. “By who? Where is she?”
“She’s at our hospital here in Luxembourg. They don’t know who did it yet. Max, it’s bad.”
Her mother....her strong, kind mother....had been attacked.
“We’ll be waiting,” Enzo replied before the line went dead.
Maxine stood frozen for a moment, the reality of the situation crashing down on her. Her mother had been shot. Her mother might not survive.
“Max?” Aiesha’s voice broke through her thoughts. “What’s wrong?”
Maxine looked up, her face pale and unreadable. “It’s my mom. She’s been shot. I have to go.”
The room fell silent, the weight of her words sinking in. Aiesha stepped forward, placing a hand on Maxine’s arm. “Do you need us to come with you?”
Maxine shook her head, at halos pilit na ngumiti sa dalaga para hindi na ito mag alala pa, “No. I’ll handle it.”
Without another word, Maxine grabbed her things and headed for the door, her heart pounding in her chest. She couldn’t think about the ‘what ifs’ or the worst-case scenarios.
All she could do was get to her mother and pray that it wasn’t too late.
