Chapter 15: Blackmail is Only Okay if I Do It

"Come on, Y/N," Haleakala said, wincing as he noticed my distraught expression. "Yuno Miles still lives within us and all that."

"It's like Spider-Man dying all over again," I said, clenching my fists as I stared at the sky.

"Then be Miles Morales," he reasoned, "and carry on his legacy."

My eyes lit up. "You're telling me to become a rapper?"

"What? No," Haleakala said bluntly. "Carry his spirit within you or something. I don't fucking know."

I frowned. "Thanks," I muttered sardonically.

"You're welcome," Haleakala said with a sarcastic grin. "Now stop moping before I grab you and slam you into the moon."

"Wouldn't doubt it," I said.

If he wanted to, he probably could. He's so overpowered he can do whatever he wanted and nobody would question it.

The next day, Vali, Haleakala, and I walked to school together.

I yawned, my eyes struggling to remain open. "Goddamnit, Kala, why did you get us the night shift position? We didn't even get paid!"

We killed our boss so we got absolutely no money from it.

Haleakala shrugged. "I thought it'd a better experience."

"Wow, yeah, we had a lot of fun, didn't we?" I said, motioning my hands exaggeratingly.

"You two got a job?" Vali wondered. "Is that where you went off to last night, Y/N?"

I nodded. "Yeah, we did. And then we lost it the same night."

Vali frowned. "How did that happen?"

"It was a difficult night."

We made it into the school grounds, wading through the crowd of students, trying to make it to our friends.

Eventually, we spotted them, standing just outside the cafeteria. Alice, Trinity, Evelyn, and Layla were all chatting amongst themselves.

When they spotted us, Alice turned and waved at us. "Hey, guys!"

Vali smiled kindly, like usual, and went over to his girlfriend. The other two flocked to him as he approached. Layla merely remain standing where she was, crossing her arms with an amused smile.

Evelyn briefly glanced at us, smiling in a friendly manner. "Good morning," she said in her mousy voice. But I already knew it was just a façade.

When we locked eyes, her expression darkened in a warning, and I swore her smile became colder. But then her countenance went back to normal, smiling cheerfully like usual.
