Chapter 16: Remind Me Never to Piss Off Layla

Layla and I sat in a table near the counter after ordering our donuts. We got six donuts in total, each a different variety.

My hand instantly darted for the Boston Cream, my personal favorite donut, but Layla, with her fast reaction time, slapped my hand away.

"Hey," I complained. "What was that for?"

Layla glared at me. "I also want that donut."

"Why didn't we get another one, then?"

"Because of the deal we got for ordering half a dozen donuts," she explained. "And also I'm the one paying for it. If I want that donut, then I'll have it."

I sighed, seeing her logic. "Fine. Let's split it in half, then."

She smirked triumphantly. "Good boy."

I facepalmed. "Never say that again. The term 'good boy' is for dogs, not humans. And you're not goth."

"Just testing your dignity," Layla said, shrugging. She grabbed the plastic knife she had, splitting the Boston Cream in twain.

"The only person who'd like being called that is Vali," I said.

Layla laughed at that. "Yeah, you're right. He's the very definition of a power bottom."

Ouch, Layla was really laying it on him. But I wholeheartedly agreed; Vali was too softspoken to take any initiative. That was why I was so surprised when he initially confessed to Alice. I expected her to be the one to confess first. But she was just as hopeless as he was.

I swear, these two were so clueless to the Plot.

But it made me wonder how Evelyn was so sensitive to it.

Anyways, Layla grabbed a half of the Boston Cream, holding it out as if handing it to me. I gave her a grateful look and moved to take it, but she suddenly wrenched her hand back, smirking mischievously.

"Let me feed it to you," she suggested.

I stared at her blankly. "This is not a romcom. Just give me the fucking donut."

She shook her head with mirth. "Nope. Open your mouth and take it."

"That's what he said."

Layla could not contain her chuckle, eyes alight with amusement. "Just do it."

"I don't know why you like teasing me so much," I said, eyes narrowing. "I'm not going to get flustered."

"It's funny," Layla said, flicking me on the nose. "You get so annoyed it's funny to see. You're usually apathetic, but you get riled up by me."

Damn, she was right; Layla was the only one who could get to me. And she knew it, so she took every opportunity to annoy me—all in good fun, obviously.

"You're annoying."

Layla smirked. "Good."

I sighed, knowing I couldn't win, and proceeded to chuckle. "I'm not going to—"

As soon as I opened my mouth, Layla found that opportunity to strike, shoving a piece of donut into my mouth. I held back a sigh and chewed, feeling the soft layer of donut make way for the explosion of cream in my mouth.

Fuck being dirty minded, goddamn.

I swallowed, glaring at Layla, who was trying not to laugh. "That's not fair—"

She once again interrupted me by shoving another piece, letting me taking another bite of it. I facepalmed as I chewed once more, swallowing it.

"I didn't even get to say 'Ahh—"
