Scott's Perspective-
As much as I've heard people whine about how many rules they have to follow, how their lives are set in stone, how the second they were born, their future was planned...
They are given way more freedom than I was ever allowed to have.
Going outside the kingdom grounds?
Whoever you need to see can come here.
Want to message a friend?
Well someone has to read through the letters before you send them to make sure there's no outside secret feelings going on.
Want to make any decision at all?
You have to go through the council.
The council was a strict set of scholars who worked with my dad to try and protect me from any outside harm.
Ever since Xornoth had run off with the prince from The Lost Empire and become corrupted, walls were put up around me and I was cut off from seeing my friends.
Now I can barely even have friends. I either don't talk to them much at all anymore, or they've just become someone I trade with once in a blue moon.
Riding on dragons, visiting the vast ocean, and going to yearly festivals just wasn't an option for me.
The only way I can earn those is by getting married.
..see the problem?
I can't leave my empire and barely have any outside contact with the world, and the only way I can do that is by marrying someone.
-
Scott sighed as he sat at his desk, looking out the window which was starting to collect snow on its edges.
He had an important trade today to practice making allies and such with other empires before he becomes king.
This is also the council's chance to figure out which empire would have a suitable partner for Scott.
The scholars all have to do extensive research about Rivendell and other empires in order to make it on the council in the first place, so now it was just a matter of seeing if the current prince or princess of that empire still holds up the old alliance.
Scott had already met a couple of the neighboring empires but today he was going to meet a fellow from the swamps.
Prince James.
-
Scott dusted off his clothes and fixed his hair before looking up as the wooden doors opened.
Prince James strolled in. He was wearing a fancy suit, a cod head, and slime was on his outfit. He had hazel eyes, dirty blonde hair, and freckles on his cheeks.
Scott scrunched his nose when James walked over, his eyes fixated on the slime on his shoulder.
"Pleasure to meet you." Prince James said.
Scott hummed and nodded, hesitantly shaking his hand.
"So you said you have the wool, correct?"
Scott nodded, "Please, follow me."
He took Jimmy outside of the castle and Jimmy shivered.
"What? Not used to the cold?" Scott asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It's freezing here!" Jimmy hissed.
"It's actually pretty warm for winter." Scott said, catching a snowflake on the palm of his hand.
"Well in my empire, it's at least 50 degrees warmer." (yes I'm American so I'm saying Jimmy's empire is like 80)
Scott's eyes widened.
"How?" He asked, surprised.
"Exactly! It's too cold here and you think it's too hot in my empire." Jimmy said confidently.
Scott rolled his eyes but suppressed a smile.
He opened the door to his sheep shed and Jimmy smiled at the warmth.
"Oh- hi there!" He smiled, tapping on the glass cage the sheep was in.
The sheep was eating its grass while the machine gently sheered its lime green wool.
"Try not to bother them too much." Scott said, opening a chest.
Jimmy shrugged and walked over.
Scott took out the wool and the bit of slime on Jimmy's shoulder trickled down and fell onto Scott's hand.
Scott gasped as it hit his boot and he winced.
"What?" Jimmy asked, "It's just a bit of slime, it's not that bad. You wanted some anyway." Jimmy rummaged in his bag and took out a little bottle.
"Does it come off easily?"
"It's just boots, they're meant to get dirty."
"No, my other pair is supposed to get dirty. These are my dress boots."
"What?" Jimmy tilted his head.
Scott sighed and Jimmy frowned.
"Look, I don't really understand what you mean by the different boots but...I'm sorry."
When they got back to the castle and the scholars saw the bit of slime on Scott's outfit, they scribbled something down in their books under Jimmy's name.
"Scott, you're going to have to throw those boots and coat out now since you got them dirty. Try and do better next time."
"H-hang on!" Jimmy walked over, "I- ..." He glanced over at Scott, who didn't dare make eye contact with him.
Jimmy took a deep breath.
"It was my fault, I...got them dirty. I accidentally spilled some of the slime on him."
The scholars frowned deeply.
"But- but I can clean it. I'll take them in my care and then clean them up before giving them back." Jimmy said.
The scholars exchanged looks, but Scott smiled.
"That'd be really nice, thanks." Scott said and Jimmy blushed, having never seen Scott smile before.
"Y-yeah, sure." Jimmy stuttered, starstruck by the pale elf.
Scott gently handed Jimmy his coat, their hands brushing together.
Jimmy stared into his eyes, noticing how the tips of Scott's ears flushed pink when he was embarrassed.
He smiled and nodded, excited to return to Rivendell after cleaning Scott's coat.
