The Problem with Osana
Osana Najimi had been too close to Lilith for too long. They'd been friends since childhood, and now, she wanted to take that friendship to another level—one I couldn't allow. Every day, I watched Osana with Lilith, their playful banter and easy smiles filling me with rage. I could see through it. Osana's teasing, her protectiveness—it wasn't just friendship. It was something more.
Lilith was mine, and Osana was standing in the way of what was rightfully meant for me.
Then came the tipping point. The moment I overheard the conversation that confirmed my worst fears. Osana was going to confess her feelings to Lilith on Friday. Under the cherry blossom tree, no less. The same spot where so many love confessions had taken place. I clenched my fists, anger boiling beneath my skin. If she confessed, if Lilith accepted her feelings, I'd lose everything.
That would not happen.
Gathering Information
I had to stop Osana's confession, but I couldn't just attack her directly. No, I had to ensure that Lilith would reject her, to make Osana's defeat more complete. If Lilith rejected her, Osana's spirit would be crushed—and she would never try again. I needed information, leverage.
Following Osana wasn't difficult. I knew her routine by heart: she always waited for Lilith at the school gates, shared lunch with her under the oak tree, and spent time in the music club. But that wasn't enough. I needed something more personal.
That's when I noticed something interesting. Osana was anxious around Lilith. She always tried to be perfect, afraid of showing any weakness. And during one of my stalking sessions, I learned why.
I followed her home one evening and witnessed an argument between Osana and her older brother. She wasn't the confident, carefree girl she pretended to be. At home, she was insecure. Her brother berated her for her grades, her behavior, her inability to live up to expectations. Osana was fragile.
I smiled to myself. I could work with this.
The Plan: Sabotage and Rejection
Friday was fast approaching, and I began setting the stage for Osana's downfall. The key was to subtly plant seeds of doubt in Lilith's mind about Osana—make her see her childhood friend as unreliable, selfish, and emotionally immature. The goal wasn't just to stop the confession; it was to ensure Lilith rejected Osana with finality.
On Wednesday, I started by planting small lies. I bumped into Lilith in the hallway and struck up a casual conversation. "Hey, Lilith. Did you notice Osana's been acting a little weird lately?"
Lilith raised an eyebrow. "Weird? What do you mean?"
I shrugged. "I don't know... it's just that she seems kind of tense, right? Like, when she's around you. I heard her talking to someone about how hard it is being friends with you because of all the pressure. Maybe it's nothing, but I thought you should know."
Lilith seemed thoughtful, but I knew she trusted Osana too much to take my word for it right away. That was fine—I wasn't finished yet.
The next day, I took it a step further. During lunch, I watched from a distance as Osana sat with Lilith under the oak tree. I sent a text to Osana from a burner phone, pretending to be her brother, reminding her about their argument the previous night. Osana's face turned pale, and she immediately excused herself from lunch, saying she wasn't feeling well.
Lilith looked confused as Osana rushed off, but she didn't chase after her. I approached her after Osana left.
"Is Osana okay?" I asked, feigning concern. "She seemed upset."
"I'm not sure," Lilith replied, frowning. "She's been acting strange all week."
I nodded. "Maybe she's stressed about something. I heard her talking about how difficult it's been for her lately. I just hope she's not taking it out on you."
Lilith gave me a small smile. "Thanks for letting me know. I'll talk to her."
Friday: The Confession and Rejection
Friday arrived, and I knew Osana would make her confession. Everything was in place for her downfall. I followed at a distance as Osana nervously led Lilith to the cherry blossom tree after school. Her hands were shaking, and I could tell she was trying to hold it together.
I hid behind one of the nearby trees, far enough to remain unseen but close enough to hear every word.
"Lilith," Osana began, her voice trembling. "There's... something I've wanted to tell you for a long time."
Lilith stood in front of her, arms crossed, looking a little uneasy. I knew why—my seeds of doubt had done their job. Osana's constant anxiety, her strange behavior, and the lies I had fed to Lilith had taken root. Lilith was no longer looking at her friend with the same warmth.
Osana continued, gathering her courage. "I've always liked you. More than just a friend. I've loved you for so long... I want to be with you."
For a moment, there was silence. The world seemed to hold its breath. I watched as Lilith's face shifted, her expression turning from confusion to something colder.
"Osana..." Lilith started, her voice careful but distant. "I don't feel the same way. I care about you as a friend, but I've noticed how strange you've been acting lately. It's been... hard for me to be around you."
Osana's face fell. "Wh-what? What do you mean? I've just been nervous, that's all—"
Lilith shook her head. "No, it's more than that. I don't think it's healthy for us to keep spending so much time together if this is how you feel. I don't want to hurt you, but... I think we need some distance."
Osana looked like she'd been slapped in the face. Her lips trembled as she tried to form words, but nothing came out. Lilith had rejected her, not just romantically, but completely. My heart swelled with satisfaction as I watched Osana's spirit crumble before my eyes.
"I'm sorry," Lilith added softly. Then, without waiting for a response, she turned and walked away, leaving Osana standing alone beneath the cherry blossoms.
Osana's Defeat
I watched as Osana stood there, frozen in place, her hands clenched into fists. She stared after Lilith, her eyes wide with shock and hurt.
This was better than I had imagined. Osana had confessed her love, only to be completely rejected by the one person she cared about most. She had lost Lilith, not just as a potential lover, but as a friend.
When Osana finally moved, she stumbled away from the cherry blossoms, shoulders slumped in defeat. She didn't return to class that day. And I knew, deep down, she would never be a threat to me again.
Aftermath
Over the next few days, Osana avoided Lilith. She stopped waiting for her at the school gates, stopped sitting with her at lunch. She still showed up to school, but she looked like a shadow of her former self—quiet, withdrawn, and completely broken.
Lilith didn't seem to dwell too much on the rejection. She was sad for a day or two, but her life quickly returned to normal. I made sure to be there, ready to offer her a friendly smile or a kind word whenever she needed it.
With Osana out of the picture, I was one step closer to having Lilith all to myself. One rival down, nine to go.
