Chapter 17

"Do we need bug spray?" Alla asked me holding up a huge bottle of bug spray

"Uh we do but I don't think we need that much bug spray. Get the smaller one." I told her

I watched her frown, "Where'd Ryder go?"

I looked around, "I actually don't know."

"Huh."

I walked down another aisle and then I saw him, at the register in the cosmetics laughing and talking to a girl who worked there. I abandoned my empty cart and headed towards them. I grabbed a box off the shelf. "Hey babe?" I called

He ignored me and continued to talk to the girl, "Ryder?" I called, I put the box on the counter, "Ring this up won't you sweetie? Babe has got the shits."

I watched as she read the box, it was medication to stop diarrhea. Her face went into a look of disgust. "Oh and do you have extra large diapers?" I asked, "We're gonna need tons."

"They're in the back." She said

I purchased the item and pulled Ryder along, "Seriously Tess?" He chuckled

"Hey I did what I had to. I'm pretty sure she was flirting with you."

"Lots of people do."

"Well I don't like it."

He intertwined our hands, "Okay I'm sorry."

"Let's get the rest of the stuff and go."

"Sure."

I stood on the deck watching the sun go down. I already unpacked my things and put them in drawers inside the cabin me and Alla shared. I was going to share a cabin with Ryder but Joel said no so I bunked with the next best person, good ole Alla.

I wrapped my shawl tighter around me as a soft wind blew. I felt arms wrap themselves around me. "Ryder?" I asked glancing down at hands, it was Alla.

"Um no it's just me Alla." She laughed, "God you're so obsessed with him."

"I am not!" I shot back

"Uh huh." She said, "Can you swim?"

"Yeah why-" I started to ask before she rudely pushed me into the water. I was soon engulfed in the lake. I let myself sink to the bottom before swimming underneath the dock that had just enough space so that I could stay afloat without drowning. I swam to the surface and waited.

"Tess?" I heard a concerned Alla call

I laughed to myself.

"Tess!" She called again more urgently this time

I heard her footsteps above me then I heard Ryder's voice. "Hey you okay? And also do you know where Tess is?"

"I think I may have killed her." Alla admitted quietly

"What do you mean you may have killed her? Where is she?" He asked

"I pushed her into the water but she never came back up." She explained

"Jesus. Well we have to find her. She couldn't have swam very far without you noticing."

A bad idea struck me. I swam from underneath the dock, held my breath, and floated into view. "Oh my god there she is!" Alla cried

I felt myself being lifted out of the water by Ryder. I kept my eyes shut. "She's not breathing."

"Well, do something then!"

"I know cpr. I was a lifeguard one summer."

"Well stop yapping and revive her already!"

"Okay okay."
