Chapter 16

I woke up to an empty bed, I looked around, I was still in Ryder's bed. I checked the time on my phone, it was 4 o'clock already. Damn I slept that long?

I headed downstairs greeted by a clean kitchen, the trash was gone, and the counters were clean. "Ah you're awake." He said, coming over to kiss my forehead, "I made lunch." He told me showing me a plate that had a grilled cheese and a small bowl of tomato soup

"Thanks." I took a seat at the cleared off table and took a bite out of the sandwich. Immediately hit with flavor, "Wow this is really good. I didn't know you cooked."

"Yeah here and there."

My phone rang, it was Joel. I answered, "Hello?"

"Hey kid, me and my friends are going camping this Friday. Wanna come?"

"Camping?"

"It was a yes or no question buddy."

"Can I bring Ryder and Alla?"

I heard him sigh, "You two are still together?"

"Yes and you better support me because we aren't breaking up. It's either the both of us or none of us."

"Fine he can come and Alla can come too."

"Great."

"What time are you coming home?"

"I don't know, I was thinking of spending the night." I answered glancing at Ryder who gave me a thumbs up

"Yeah no not gonna happen. You're coming home tonight it's Mackenzie's 7th grade dance and I signed us both up to volunteer."

"Now why would you do that?"

"I think it would be good for us to be more involved in Mackenzie's life. She needs to know we are there for."

"I see."

"Also she told me some kids have been messing with her. I wanted to keep an eye on her."

"Aw man she didn't tell me that. I'll be there."

"Okay. I'll come get you soon." He said hanging up

Ryder grinned excitedly, "So you're spending the night? I could use the company."

"Sorry, can't stay tonight. I have to help out at my little sister's dance."

"Aw well that's okay. You can stay the night another day."

I pulled him in for a kiss. I felt him smile as we kissed. We pulled apart, "I have to go soon, my brother is picking me up."

He nodded, "Oh okay."

"I'll see you at school tomorrow."

"Yeah I'll be there."

"Oh by the way have you ever been camping?"
