Chapter 14

I woke up to Alla shaking my shoulders, "Wakey wakey."

I opened my eyes, "Is it gone?"

"Yes the spider is gone, you can sit up front now."

I unbuckled my seatbelt and climbed up front, "Thank god."

"Do you have to use the bathroom? We're an hour out if we go from here it's a straight shot if we just continue without stopping."

"Yeah I gotta pee."

"Just go inside and pee."

"Come with me?" I begged

"You'll be fine just go, they're very welcoming I promise."

I huffed dramatically, "Fine."

I walked to the front door that was already open. I walked in and was greeted by Alla's cousin Mindy. "Oh hey! I hope it wasn't too much trouble being in the same car as Alice."

I frowned, "Alice?"

"My pet tarantula."

"Oh um it was fine." I lied with a forced smile. I hate spiders! "Do you have a bathroom I can use?"

"Yeah sure right down this hall the first door on the right."

"Thanks."

I did my business and headed back to the car where Alla was waiting for me. We said our goodbyes, her cousin wished us a safe trip then proceeded to ask if I wanted to hold Alice for a second, which I graciously refused.

I put my shades on and sighed, two more hours and I'll get the answers I want. Then it struck me, what if I didn't like the answers?

I felt a hand on my shoulder, "Hey you okay? You're making that face again."

"I'm fine just thinking."

"Well don't run yourself into a ditch okay? I'm here if you wanna talk and get stuff off your chest."

"I was just thinking, what if I don't like what I hear? I mean what if it's really bad?"

"I don't know hun I mean. If what you hear adds up, maybe you should reconsider what type of person you're actually dating."

"But the thing is I don't want to end things with Ryder. I-I think I love...him."

"Well that changes things a bit."

"Yeah."

"Everything will be okay. Things have a way of working out."

"I hope so."

She rubbed my arm. "And anyway I'll be every step of the way."

"Thanks Alla."

We pulled into the parking lot of the RItz Book Cafe, apparently they were open this early. By now it was 10 o clock almost time to meet Mariah. I checked my reflection in the mirror hoping I looked okay and not like I just rolled out of bed. I smoothed down my hair.

"Don't be nervous it'll be final Alla told me

"I know it's just that I'm meeting my boyfriend's ex. Should I even be doing this? And behind his back too?"

"Babe relax, you're not doing anything wrong if anything you're doing it for yourself. You need to figure out if he's the right person you wanna be with. You're just curious and that's okay."

I sighed and wiped my eyes because I was starting to tear up. "I hope you're right."

"Now let's do this thang."
