Unbreakable

Chapter 2

I woke up to my alarm blaring, I groaned and rolled out of bed. I went into my bathroom and brushed my teeth then did my hair, brushing out the tangles of my brown hair. I needed a trim. My hair already reached past my waist. I swiped on some mascara and lip balm and I was ready. I headed to the kitchen and cooked some eggs with cheese. I set two plates out for Joel and Makenzie then went to go check on the baby, the babysitter should have been here already. I checked the time it was already seven.

I texted the babysitter Mindy and she says she was running a little late but would be here soon. I went to my brother's room and knocked on the door, "Breakfast!"

I heard a groan, "Later!" He called back

I went to wake Makenzie, I knocked on her door before opening the door. "Hey are you-?" I started to ask when I noticed how much of a mess her room was. She was sitting on her bed holding up two tops. "Um what's this mess?"

She looked at me, "Today is show and tell day I was looking for my special rock dad gave me last Christmas."

"And did you find it?" I asked

She nodded excitedly, "It was under my bed. Now which one screams confidence?" She asked holding up two shirts

I tapped my chin, "The red one."

"You're right."

"I hope you're planning to clean this mess up."

"I will, I promise."

"Good now get ready for school and I made breakfast so hurry up so you have time to actually eat it."

"Okay." She replied

I shut the door, and headed back to the kitchen to clean up. I washed the dishes that were in the sink and wiped the counters down. Makenzie came out of her room holding a white bow in her hand. She thrust the bow at me, "Can you put it in my hair for me?"

I smiled, "Of course." I took the bow and clipped it into her ponytail, "There you look perfect."

She grinned, "Thanks."

I checked the time it was already 7:30, "Alright as soon as Mindy comes we gotta go."

I gathered my stuff and put it on the chair near the door so I was prepared. The doorbell finally rang and I went to answer it. It was Carter standing there with flowers in hand. I frowned, "Am I missing something?" I questioned

"It's our two year anniversary, how did you forget?" He asked highly upset

"I'm sorry I just had more important things to think about." I argued

"Oh so our anniversary isn't important now?" He asked

I sighed, "You know that's not what I meant."

"It sure sounded like it." He placed the flowers in my hands. "Enjoy your fucking flowers I bought you. I'll see you at school." He told me before he turned to go

"Babe?"

"What?" He asked as he snapped around

"Thanks for remembering." I thanked him

"Yeah yeah." He nodded

I watched him leave just as Mindy pulled up, she got out of her car and rushed up to me, "Sorry I'm late! My cat tried to eat a Lego."

"It's alright you still made it." I told her. "Come on Kenzie." I called, "Time for school."

She trudged towards the door, "Do I have to go?"

"Why don't you wanna go today?" I asked her

She sighed, "What if no one likes my special rock? What if they say it's lame?" She questioned
