A few weeks after Lux had settled into preschool, life in the house felt calm and steady. Ethan and Jenna had found a new routine, juggling their busy schedules with Lux's school days. But lately, Jenna had been feeling off — tired, a little nauseous, and slightly overwhelmed. She brushed it off as stress or just being busy, but deep down, something felt different.
One quiet evening, as they sat together on the couch after Lux had gone to bed, Jenna shifted uncomfortably. Ethan noticed her unease. "You okay, love?" he asked, his arm resting gently on her shoulder.
Jenna sighed, rubbing her stomach absentmindedly. "I don't know. I've been feeling strange these past few weeks. I thought maybe it was just stress or something I ate, but now I'm not so sure."
Ethan furrowed his brow, concerned. "You think it's something serious? Maybe we should call the doctor, just in case."
Jenna nodded slowly, but there was a hint of hesitation. "Actually, I think I should take a pregnancy test first."
Ethan blinked in surprise. "You think...?"
Jenna shrugged, her voice soft. "I mean, it could be that. We weren't really planning for another baby right now, but... well, these symptoms feel pretty familiar."
A nervous energy filled the air as Jenna stood and headed to the bathroom, leaving Ethan sitting there in a whirlwind of thoughts. Could they really be having another baby? They hadn't even discussed it lately, and Lux had just started preschool. The timing seemed...unexpected.
A few minutes later, Jenna returned, holding the test in her hand, her face unreadable. Ethan stood up immediately, searching her eyes for an answer.
"It's positive," Jenna said softly, a small smile beginning to creep onto her face despite her initial shock.
Ethan's eyes widened. "Really? We're having another baby?" His surprise quickly turned into excitement as he pulled Jenna into a tight hug. "I can't believe it!"
Jenna laughed, feeling a mix of joy and nerves bubbling up. "Neither can I. I wasn't expecting this, but... I think it's a blessing."
They both sat back down on the couch, processing the news together. The idea of another little one in the house was both exhilarating and overwhelming, but they knew they could handle it. After all, they had faced surprises before and had come out stronger each time.
"I guess we'll have to tell Lux soon," Jenna mused. "She's going to be a big sister."
Ethan grinned. "She's going to be the best big sister. She'll be so excited."
As the night went on, they talked about the future, about expanding their family, and about the love they already had to give. Their unexpected news was quickly turning into a cherished part of their journey together.
