With the baby's due date approaching quickly, Ethan and Jenna turned their attention to another exciting task: preparing the nursery for their new arrival. The spare room in their home had been waiting for its transformation, and now that they had a few name ideas, it was time to create a space for their little one, whether it was Isla or Holden.
One weekend morning, Ethan and Jenna gathered supplies—paint, brushes, and tools—ready to get to work. They had decided on a neutral color scheme with soft pastels, given that the baby's gender would remain a surprise.
"We want it to feel warm and welcoming, no matter if it's a boy or girl," Jenna said, rolling out a pale yellow shade on the walls.
Ethan was busy measuring and marking spots for the new furniture: a crib, a changing table, and a small bookshelf for the baby's first set of toys and books. "I think this will be the coziest room in the house once we're done," he said, grinning.
As the day went on, they laughed and worked together, turning the blank room into a peaceful haven for their baby. Jenna painted little clouds on one wall, giving the space a dreamy feel, while Ethan carefully assembled the crib, double-checking every screw and bolt to make sure it was perfect.
"We're going to spend so much time in here," Jenna mused, stepping back to admire her work. "Late-night feedings, diaper changes, playing with toys. It's surreal to think that in just a few weeks, we'll have a new little person here with us."
Ethan nodded, his hands on his hips as he looked around the room. "I can already picture us all sitting in here, reading bedtime stories to the baby and Lux. It's going to be amazing."
As the room came together, Lux entered, her face lighting up when she saw the colorful walls and the crib. "Is this where the baby's going to sleep?" she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"That's right," Jenna said, kneeling down to her level. "What do you think? Do you like it?"
Lux grinned and nodded. "It's perfect! I want to help pick the toys for the baby."
Ethan chuckled. "We'll definitely need your help with that, big sister."
The family spent the rest of the day adding finishing touches to the nursery. They hung soft curtains, placed plush toys around the room, and laid out a soft rug in the center where they could all sit and play. The bookshelf was filled with classic children's books that had been passed down through generations, waiting to be read to the newest member of the family.
By the time evening rolled around, the nursery was complete. It was a peaceful, beautiful space, full of warmth and love—a perfect reflection of the family that would soon welcome a new addition.
Jenna stood in the doorway, taking it all in. "I can't wait to bring the baby home to this."
Ethan wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his hands on her belly. "Neither can I. This is where our next adventure begins."
