The morning sun poured through the windows as Lux bounced out of bed, her excitement bubbling over. Today was her special day—her 4th birthday—and she had been eagerly waiting for this moment all week. The house was filled with the smell of freshly baked cake and the sound of laughter as everyone prepared for the celebration.
Ethan and Jenna had been up early, decorating the living room with colorful balloons, streamers, and a banner that read, "Happy 4th Birthday, Lux!" Camille was helping by placing small party hats on the table, eager to make her cousin's day perfect.
Lux came running into the room, her eyes wide with joy as she took in the sight of the decorations. "Wow!" she exclaimed, her little feet bouncing on the floor. "It's so pretty!"
"Happy birthday, sweetheart!" Jenna said, sweeping her up into a big hug. "Are you ready for your party?"
Lux nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! Is there cake?"
Ethan laughed as he carried a brightly decorated cake into the room. "Of course! Your favorite—chocolate with pink frosting."
Lux's eyes widened even more, if that was possible. "Pink frosting! Yay!"
As the guests began to arrive—family and a few friends from the neighborhood—the room filled with joyful chatter and energy. Amelia and Lily were there, bringing along their daughter Camille, who was just as excited for the party as Lux. Edwin and Jamie showed up with baby Hilda, who was babbling happily in her carrier, soaking in the lively atmosphere.
After some fun games, including pin the tail on the unicorn and a treasure hunt that Ethan had carefully organized, it was time for the big event—opening presents. Lux sat in the center of the room, surrounded by brightly wrapped gifts, her face glowing with anticipation.
The first gift she opened was from Jenna and Ethan—a set of wooden building blocks painted in pastel colors. "For your imagination to run wild!" Ethan said with a smile, watching as Lux admired each block.
Camille handed her a smaller gift wrapped in purple paper. "This one's from me!" she said, grinning. Lux tore open the paper to reveal a stuffed unicorn with a sparkly horn.
"It's so fluffy!" Lux squealed, hugging the unicorn tightly. "Thank you, Camille!"
The presents kept coming, each one bringing a new wave of excitement. There were books, puzzles, and a pink dress from Amelia and Lily that Lux immediately wanted to try on.
Finally, as the party began to wind down, it was time for the cake. Everyone gathered around the table as Ethan lit four small candles on top of the cake. Lux looked at the flickering flames, her eyes bright with excitement.
"Make a wish, Lux," Jenna whispered.
Lux closed her eyes for a moment, thinking deeply before blowing out the candles with all her might. Everyone cheered, and Lux giggled, proud of her birthday wish—though she kept it a secret, as all good wishes should be.
After cake and more laughter, as the evening approached and the guests slowly trickled out, Lux sat on the couch with her new unicorn in one hand and her parents on either side of her.
"Did you have a good birthday, sweetie?" Ethan asked, giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
Lux nodded sleepily, her energy finally fading after such an exciting day. "It was the best birthday ever."
Jenna smiled, stroking Lux's hair as she leaned into her. "And next year will be even better."
As Lux drifted off to sleep, Ethan and Jenna exchanged a glance, happy that their little girl had another beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and family.
