The house was buzzing with excitement as friends and family gathered to celebrate Hilda's first birthday. Balloons floated along the ceiling, and a beautiful pink and lavender cake sat in the center of the table, adorned with a candle shaped like the number one. Jamie and Edwin had gone all out for the special day, wanting to make sure their baby girl felt all the love and joy she deserved.
Hilda, wearing a soft, ruffled dress and a tiny flower crown, sat in her high chair, watching everyone with wide, curious eyes. Her little hands reached out for the colorful decorations as she babbled happily, her laughter filling the room.
Amelia, Lily, and their daughter Camille were some of the first to arrive. Camille, now four, was especially excited for the party and dashed over to Hilda's high chair the moment they walked in.
"Happy birthday, Hilda!" Camille exclaimed, reaching up to gently touch her cousin's hand. "You're a big girl now!"
Jamie smiled warmly as she watched her niece dote on Hilda. "Thank you for coming, sweetie! Hilda's so happy to see you."
Amelia hugged Jamie, then turned to Edwin. "The house looks amazing. You two really outdid yourselves."
Edwin laughed, running a hand through his short hair. "We wanted to make it special. I still can't believe she's already a year old."
As more family members arrived, the party quickly filled with laughter and conversation. Lux, now three, was busy playing with Camille and the other children, running around the yard while the adults gathered around the cake.
When it was finally time to sing happy birthday, everyone crowded around Hilda. Jamie and Edwin stood on either side of her, beaming with pride as they lit the single candle.
"Ready, baby girl?" Jamie asked with a smile, bending down to kiss the top of Hilda's head.
The crowd began to sing, and Hilda clapped her hands excitedly, her tiny face lighting up with joy. When the song ended, Jamie helped her blow out the candle, and the room erupted in applause.
"Yay, Hilda!" Edwin cheered, giving her a little kiss on the cheek.
Jamie took the first slice of cake and placed it in front of Hilda, who stared at it with wide eyes, not quite sure what to do with it. After a few moments of hesitation, she reached out with both hands and smashed the cake into her face, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
"That's our girl!" Amelia laughed, as she captured the moment on her phone.
Camille giggled, watching Hilda make a mess of the cake. "She's so funny!"
The rest of the day was filled with games, presents, and lots of love. As the party began to wind down, Jamie and Edwin stood back for a moment, watching Hilda play with the new toys she had received. It had been a perfect day, and they couldn't have asked for more.
Edwin wrapped an arm around Jamie's waist. "We did good," he said softly, his eyes full of affection for both his wife and their daughter.
Jamie leaned into him, smiling. "Yeah, we did. Hilda's growing up so fast, but I'm so grateful for every moment."
They stood there together, watching their little girl, feeling the warmth of family all around them. Hilda was one year old, and this was just the beginning of so many beautiful memories to come.
