Chapter 23: Hilda's First Birthday Party

The sun shone brightly on the day of Hilda's first birthday, and the whole family gathered to celebrate. The backyard of Jamie and Edwin's home was transformed into a cheerful wonderland of balloons, streamers, and a colorful "Happy Birthday Hilda" banner that fluttered in the light breeze. Lux, who was now getting used to her role as a big cousin, bounced excitedly around the yard, eager to help with the party.

Ethan, Jenna, and Lux arrived early, ready to help Jamie and Edwin with the final touches. Lux ran straight to Hilda, who was sitting in her high chair wearing a cute birthday crown. She giggled when Lux waved a small stuffed animal in front of her.

Jamie, standing nearby, smiled warmly as she finished decorating the cake table. "She's growing so fast, isn't she?"

Edwin joined them, holding a tray of cupcakes. "It feels like just yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital," he said, setting the cupcakes down with care.

Lux stood nearby, ready to help. "I can show her how!"

Edwin, holding Hilda in his arms, smiled. "Let's do it together."

As everyone sang "Happy Birthday," Hilda clapped her hands, her face lighting up with delight. When the song ended, Lux helped Hilda blow out the candle, the little flame flickering out with a soft puff.

The cake was cut, and Hilda immediately smeared frosting all over her face as she dug into her slice, much to everyone's amusement. The guests laughed and took pictures, enjoying the sweet chaos that comes with a baby's first birthday.
