As the weeks ticked by, Ethan and Jenna felt the excitement—and nervousness—building in their household. The nursery was ready, and every little detail seemed to echo with the anticipation of their new baby. Lux, now fully embracing her role as a big sister, was more than eager to help prepare for the arrival.
One afternoon, while Jenna was resting, Ethan decided to take Lux on a special outing. "How about we go get some baby supplies? We can pick out a few things for your little sibling together."
Lux's eyes sparkled with delight. "Can we get a toy too? I want to share my toys with the baby!"
"Absolutely," Ethan said with a smile, ruffling her hair. "Let's go find some things!"
At the store, Lux buzzed with energy, darting from aisle to aisle. They filled the cart with diapers, bottles, and soft blankets. When they reached the toy section, Lux's eyes widened at all the choices. "This one!" she declared, picking up a cuddly stuffed bear. "It'll be the first toy the baby gets!"
Ethan nodded approvingly. "Great choice! That bear is going to be a wonderful friend for the baby."
As they continued shopping, Lux chatted about all the things she wanted to teach her sibling—how to play, how to laugh, and even how to color. Ethan couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm.
Back home, Jenna was waiting with a freshly baked batch of cookies. "How was your adventure?" she asked, pulling Lux into a hug.
"It was amazing! We got a bear and lots of baby stuff!" Lux exclaimed, her face beaming with pride.
Later that evening, the family sat around the kitchen table, enjoying the cookies together. Jenna turned to Lux and asked, "What are you most excited about when the baby arrives?"
Lux thought for a moment, her brow furrowed in concentration. "I want to show them how to color! And I'll teach them to play tag in the backyard!"
Ethan and Jenna exchanged glances, their hearts swelling with joy at Lux's eagerness to embrace her new role.
As the days passed, Jenna began to feel the familiar signs of impending labor. She and Ethan had spent many nights discussing their birth plan, making sure they were prepared for every possibility. Now, with only days to go, they felt the mix of excitement and anxiety.
"Do you have everything packed for the hospital?" Ethan asked one evening as they sat together on the couch, Jenna's feet resting in his lap.
"Almost," Jenna replied, her voice calm despite the whirlwind of emotions she felt. "I just need to add a few more things to the bag. I want to make sure we're ready for anything."
"Good idea. I'll finish up the last-minute things in the car," he said, standing up to head to the garage.
That night, as they settled into bed, Jenna couldn't help but feel a mixture of calm and anticipation. "It's really happening," she whispered, looking at Ethan. "We're about to be parents of two."
Ethan smiled, brushing his fingers through her hair. "And Lux is going to be the best big sister. We've got this together."
With those comforting words, they drifted off to sleep, unaware that the following days would bring a whirlwind of love and change into their lives.
