Caden's POV:

Nadine doesn't understand that I need to help her. She doesn't understand that that's what I'm supposed to do.

If I can't help myself, I need to help someone. Someone like myself; someone like Nadia; just someone.

I know Nadia is addicted to something, I just don't know what. She's so isolated and I need her to open up. I need her to let me help her, not just for my sake but for her own.

I'm really worried about her. With Nadine, it's like I just want to keep her in a jar like she's a firefly and protect her from everything. I don't know if it's just because of her regression that I'm this way because who doesn't want to protect a child?

Nadine still is a child. I'm still a child. Kind of. I'm going to college next year which, in my mind, seems unreal. When I was younger I wanted to be a knight, but I don't think you can go to college for that, and I was four. I also wanted to be a pro basketball player, but that dream died fast after I, what Mom calls, 'fell in with the wrong crowd'.

People tell you you can be whatever you want, but they're lying. You can be whatever you want until you're six and the other kids make fun of you for it. Or until your thirteen and it's unrealistic. Or eighteen and you actually have to choose something that'll support you in this shit a acconomy.

I don't even want to go to college.

Nadia walks out of the bathroom. I wonder who told her about the drug thing. I won't mention it though.

I like her outfit.

"All ready, Rosewood?"

She nods.

"Okay, let's go."

She nods again and we head out of the door. Nadia keeps pulling at her skirt, as if the fabric will just grow past her knees.

The whole walk is silent. I know I should probably say something, but I'm too afraid of making Nadia more uncomfortable than what she already is.

After what feels like forever of deafening silence, we reach the store. Kai is standing out side of the door, leaning against the wall and smoking a cigrette. Riley is there too. I'm guessing Kai invited him. I've never been much of a fan of Riley. Although, I don't know if my gut feeling is just jealousy.

I glance down at Nadia. "Come on."

She nods robotically. I really do wish Nadia spoke more. I guess that's why I'm her senior. To get her to talk. This store trip, I'm going to get her to talk. Trust me on that.

I walk towards Kai and Riley. Nadia trails behind me.
