Jimin sat quietly at the small table in the cozy living room, the soft light from the lamp casting a warm glow around him as he sipped his coffee. The house was peaceful, and he savored the quiet moment, enjoying the simple comfort of a good book in his hands. The scent of the coffee mixed with the faint aroma of lavender from the candles nearby, and for a moment, everything felt calm.
But as he turned the page, his thoughts drifted. His mind wandered to Jungkook, who had just finished putting Jungwoo to sleep. They had been spending more time together recently, growing closer in ways that both comforted and frightened him. Jimin had always admired Jungkook, not just for his looks but for the way he treated Jungwoo with such unwavering love and care. Despite the complexity of their relationship, there was no doubt in Jimin's mind that Jungkook was a dedicated father.
Jimin's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of soft footsteps. He looked up just as Jungkook entered the room, a gentle smile on his face. His hair was slightly tousled from the day, but his eyes held that familiar warmth Jimin had grown to adore. Without a word, Jungkook leaned down and kissed Jimin softly on the lips, a tender gesture that sent a flutter through Jimin's chest.
Jungkook then sat beside him on the couch, resting his arm comfortably on Jimin's shoulder as he relaxed into the cushions. “Jungwoo’s asleep,” he said, his voice low and content. “He knocked out pretty quickly tonight.”
Jimin smiled, closing his book and setting it aside. "He had a long day," he replied, feeling Jungkook’s warmth beside him. They sat like that for a while, basking in the tranquility of the moment, the only sound being the occasional rustle of pages and the soft clinking of Jimin's coffee cup.
But then Jimin’s mind drifted to something else—something that had been nagging at him since earlier that day. He straightened up slightly, glancing toward his bag that lay on the floor beside the couch. The envelope. That mysterious man had given it to him earlier at the school, and Jimin had been too preoccupied with everything else to open it. But now, with Jungkook here beside him, he felt a strange urgency to find out what was inside.
"I almost forgot," Jimin said, leaning forward to grab his bag. Jungkook lifted his arm from Jimin’s shoulder, watching curiously as Jimin pulled out the brown envelope. “This was given to me earlier today by some stranger. I didn’t recognize him, and he didn’t say a word. He just handed me this and left.”
Jungkook frowned slightly, his curiosity piqued. “What is it?”
“I don’t know,” Jimin replied, holding the envelope in his hands. “I haven’t opened it yet. I thought it might be something we should look at together.”
Jungkook’s expression turned serious as he shifted in his seat, leaning closer to Jimin. There was something unsettling about the whole situation, but they couldn’t just ignore it. Jimin carefully tore open the envelope, his fingers trembling slightly as he pulled out the folded papers inside.
As they unfolded the document, their eyes immediately landed on the bold title at the top: DNA Test Results.
Jimin felt his heart skip a beat as he glanced at Jungkook, who was now staring at the paper with wide eyes. His breathing grew heavier as he read the details on the page. There, in black and white, were the results of a paternity test—one that conclusively stated that Jungkook was not Jungwoo's biological father.
Jungkook’s entire world seemed to come crashing down in that moment. His vision blurred as he tried to process the words in front of him. This couldn’t be real. This had to be a mistake. But as his eyes moved down the page, there was no denying the truth staring back at him.
He wasn’t Jungwoo’s biological father.
Jimin was the first to speak, though his voice was barely above a whisper. "Jungkook..." he started, his own shock evident in the way his hands trembled as he held the paper. "I... I don’t know what to say."
