"Mommy, won't we take Uncle Bear with us?" Jevin raised a question before Jennie could step out of the car.

"Huh?" she blinked, watching her son look back at her innocently.

"Uncle Bear is always with us and has been protecting Mommy. So, we should treat him."

Uh...

'About that...' Jennie maintained a subtle smile, but was a little conflicted with the idea. All she wanted right now was a break from Bear. His observant gaze and his silent lamentations were also stressing her out.

"That's true." Still, in the end, Jennie agreed, since she didn't want to appear selfish in front of her son. She turned her head in the driver's seat, looking at Bear's side profile. "Bear, park the car and join us, alright?"

"Madam, thank you, but I can stay here —"

"Please, Bear," she insisted against her will. "I insist. Join us."

"That's right, Uncle Bear!" Jevin chimed in. "It's not the first time you'll eat with us, anyway. We even celebrated your return after your vacation leave, right? So, I think we are very close, like family!"

Jennie glanced at her enthusiastic son, but inwardly breathed a sigh. Still, she maintained a warm smile at Bear.

Seeing that Jennie and Jevin weren't getting off the car until he give them a satisfactory answer, Bear let out a deep exhale.

"Yes, sure," he answered in surrender. "I'll just park the car and join you."

"Yey!" Jevin cheered while Jennie chuckled at her son's reaction.

"Yummy?"

"Mhm!" Jevin grinned, holding a spoon while enjoying his cup of ice cream. "Mommy, did you just see this stall today?"

"Yep. I didn't notice it back then, but the server told me it was because they just opened almost a week ago."

"Ohh..." Jevin scooped another spoonful of ice cream, giggling at the sweetness filling in his mouth. "No wonder there's a lot of discounts."

"Do you want to try this one?" Jennie pointed at the food on her plate, all her attention on him.

"Uhm... I'll just take a bite."

"Sure!" Jennie immediately took a spoon, feeding her son, and waited for his reaction.

"It's good."

"Really?"

"But your cooking is still the best!" Jevin flashed her a bright and sweet smile, almost blinding his mother to the level of cuteness he had been displaying. "Mommy, can I eat all this ice cream?"

"Of course!" Jennie ruffled his hair gently. "Jevy had been a good boy, after all."

The little master felt giddy, gobbling the ice cream heartily. Since Jevin had always been curious about his health, he rarely enjoyed simple staples like ice cream. Not that they deprived him of it, but eating desserts every once in a while made him appreciate it more.

As Jevin enjoyed his cup of ice cream, Jennie and Bear remained silent. She glanced at his plate, and then at him.

"Mr. Cruel, I noticed you weren't touching your food," she noticed as her way to dissolve the lingering awkwardness between them. Or rather, the awkwardness she felt toward him.

After all, she was the one who had something to hide from him.

"I had a hefty meal this morning," explained Bear monotonously. "So, I'm a little overwhelmed."

"Is that so?" Jennie let out a short and awkward laugh, unable to continue the conversation. Instead, she focused on her food and once in a while checked on her son.

She could still feel Bear would constantly glance at her, but she pretended not to notice. If only she knew this would happen, she would've rather cooked Jevin some home-cooked snacks. At least, if they were in the penthouse, Bear would stay outside.

'Now that I think about it, why am I worrying so much?' she wondered to herself, resting her jaw against her knuckles while chewing. 'Bear is someone who believed in things he sees. It's the same for me. If I put myself in his shoes, even if I have a suspicion, it was just impossible.'

Jennie blinked while nodding to herself. 'I mean, I died five years ago. Not to mention, I had no connection with Jennie Kim or the Manoban family in the past. Wasn't that the reason Bear was in this country? Because this was one of the countries I only stepped foot in once and left no memory of?'

'That's right. There's no need to fret. I am stressing myself over nothing.' Jennie felt a bit better after mentally talking to herself, setting her muddled thoughts straight. 'I mean, even if Bear had suspicions, there's no way he could prove that, right? Even if I admit it to him or announce who I am, he wouldn't believe me! I wouldn't believe me.'

As Jennie felt better and better at her own thoughts, Bear was still stuck in his own loop.

'That's right.' Bear mentally nodded to himself, almost succeeding in convincing himself once again. 'There's no way... really?'

Bear narrowed his eyes at Jennie while she was eating, propping her jaw against her knuckles. Her attention was fixed on the little master, smiling at him, stroking his hair habitually.

'She...' Bear sighed for the umpteenth time today, feeling the heaviness in his heart. 'I've always wondered what she would be like once she had a family of her own. It was hard to imagine her having a child or husband, considering she could be very cruel. However, after witnessing Vicenzo and Elena change after having her...'

His eyes softened, watching the mother and son across from him. 'Jane would probably be just as loving as them.'

At the end of the day, Jane was the way she was because of her disposition. Jane had to survive because she literally had an entire organization on her back. On top of that, Jane had secretly sponsored charities for the elderly and children that had relied on her dirty money.

Being cruel was her means of survival because kindness could get her killed. But if they gave her a chance, Bear knew Jane would be just as loving as Jennie.

'How nice would it be if she got to live this life?' he wondered to himself, only for him to snap back to reality when Jevin suddenly spoke.

"Uncle Bear, would it be rude if I asked about your family?" Jevin inquired innocently, making Bear and Jennie raised their brows ever so slowly, taken aback by the question both of them didn't expect to hear today.
