The twisted smirk on Lea's face slowly faded the more she listened to Jennie's gloating. The latter didn't stop talking and Jennie didn't show any sign she wanted to stop.
"I see..." Lea's lips quivered, forcing a smile, but failed miserably. "Well, if that's the case, then that's good. I worried about nothing."
"Yeah..." Jennie cleared her throat. "Anyway, are you okay now?"
"Huh?"
"You said you and that pervert broke up. Are you okay?"
"Ah... yes. Of course, why wouldn't I be? I was the one who dumped him."
"Oh..."
"Anyway, I'll hang up now."
"Wait!" Lea raised her brows, stopping herself from hanging up the phone as Jennie spoke. "When are you coming back to the set?"
"Ah, about that." Lea bit her bottom lip as she pondered about it. "Soon. I'll just have to settle some other things, but I will be back very soon."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Okay."
"Alright. See you then."
With that being said, Lea ended the call without a second hesitation. She dropped her hand to the side, staring at the desk in front of her listlessly.
'He didn't do anything to her?' she asked herself, recalling Jennie's tone.
It didn't sound like Jennie was in trouble. If anything, it surprised Lea that Jennie already knew about the article. There was no way Jennie would know about that unless Lisa told her about it.
That goes to show that the article did nothing.
Lea's grip around her phone tightened until her hand turned white. The corner of her mouth twitched a little, torn between laughing in ridicule or in amusement. Her heart kept thudding against her chest, and her breathing slowly grew ragged. She tried calming herself down but to no avail.
"That vixen!!!" Another piercing scream echoed in the room, followed by the noises caused by sweeping everything on the desk with her arms.
Lea's manager, who was with her in the room, couldn't help but jump in surprise. Her eyes shook, looking at Lea as the latter threw a huge feat. She took a few steps back as Lea destroyed everything within her reach, screaming her lungs out, and cursing someone continuously.
"Lea..." the manager felt this indescribable fear creep into her heart, clutching her hand close to her chest. She took another careful step back, holding her breath.
"Just what does she have that I don't?!" Lea screamed, grazing her hand on the broken teacup. "Why... does everyone forgive her easily?"
After minutes of going out of control, Lea stood in the same spot, frozen. The chair she initially sat on already tipped over, adding more mess in the room that her manager was trying to tidy up. Droplets of blood trickled down her fingertip, head hanging low, still panting for air.
"Why...?" she whispered through her gritted teeth. "... is everyone favoring her?"
Be it then or now, Jennie always had it easy.
Even though Jennie didn't have a mother, she had a loving and protective father. Lea's parents were abusive, and even when her parents separated, it was still hell for her. Both of her parents didn't want anything to do with her, seeing her as nothing but a nuisance.
In school, everyone loved Jennie. Even if Jennie messed up, people would always smile at her mistakes and encourage her. But if it was Lea, they would just scold her ruthlessly.
Even now that they were older, and having their own careers, people never spared Lea mercy. They always look at her shortcoming, but they would accept Jennie with open arms despite disappearing without a word. Even in the aspect of love, Jennie had it better.
Primo and Lisa were both rich and handsome. And yet, the other man would protect his wife while the other one used his lover.
It was too much.
Primo was the last straw.
"I hate her." Lea held her head and clasped portions of her hair. "It's her fault my life is like this. If she wasn't in my life... if she wasn't in my world, my life would be better."
Her vision blurred with tears as countless painful memories flooded her mind. Jennie consumed her thoughts, and the comparison of how people treated her left her feeling suffocated.
'This is all her fault,' Lea blamed. 'If not for her... if only she's not in my world... stop...'
In her mind, all those people surrounding Jennie were suddenly looking at her. Even Jennie was looking at her, wearing these laughing masks as if they were mocking her.
"Stop..." Lea shivered, taking a step back while covering her ears. "Stop! Stop laughing at me! This is all your fault! Get away from me!!"
Lea stepped on a piece of shard, yet she didn't even flinch. If anything, she kept taking a step back, yelling the word "stop" as if there was anyone else in the room aside from her and her manager.
"Stop!!!! Kya!!!!"
"Lea!" Lea's manager squatted down as Lea slumped to her bottom, screaming. She held Lea's shoulder while Lea continuously asked "them" to stop laughing and ridiculing her. She shook her but to no avail.
"Lea..." The manager's face crumpled as her grip on Lea's shoulder trembled.
"Please..." Lea's voice gradually quieted down, peeking out to see if the people laughing at her were still there. However, all she saw was her manager's face, looking at her with deep worry.
"Manager Chu!" Lea suddenly clasped her manager's clothes, still trembling in fear. "Did you see them?"
"Lea."
"Jennie brought everyone here to laugh at me." Lea clenched her teeth, looking around cautiously. "Did they leave?"
"Lea."
"That vixen. How dare she take everyone here just to laugh at me?"
"Lea."
"Just because everyone —"
"Jung Lea!!"
Lea flinched when her manager's voice thundered, making her look back at her. But as soon as she did, Manager Chu embraced her tightly.
"Lea... just what is wrong with you?" Manager Chu clutched her back, grinding her teeth as she could barely process what she witnessed just now. "No one's here, Lea. It's just you and me."
"Huh?"
Lea's irises gradually went wide, looking around the room, only to realize it was just as untidy as it was. And no one was inside, aside from her and Manager Chu.
