"I don't believe that you fell in love with your rapist."
For some reason, Hanbin's voice echoed across every corner of the suite. Jennie slowly reopened her eyes as she dropped her fingers from the bridge of her nose. When she turned around to face him, she asked;
"What did you say?" Deep lines appeared between her brows, hoping she heard him wrong this time. "Did you just say?"
"Jennie, I know Lisa took advantage and violated you that night, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy. He locked you away from everyone and kept you all for himself, afraid you'd speak up about it." His fist trembled in anger as his chest moved in and out heavily. "I didn't want to say this, knowing it's something you might not want others to know. However, I don't know what to do anymore."
Hanbin mustered his courage to look up at her again as a thin layer of tears coated his reddening eyes. "Every time I think of what happened to you, I blame myself for not being there for you that night. If I was there, I don't think he would get a chance to do what he did. Our lives... your life wouldn't be like this."
"That is why... that is why I have to do something no matter what," he added through his gritted teeth. "I failed you that night and for the past five years, you suffered. It's late, I know, but I cannot just sit idly by knowing the truth."
Hanbin walked toward her until he was standing before her. "Don't be scared anymore, Jennie. Please. Don't turn me away."
Another wave of silence descended upon their shoulders as they looked at each other. For some reason, a tear suddenly rolled down Jennie's cheek as she slowly balled her hand into a tight fist.
SLAP!
A resounding slap pierced through the thick silence. Hanbin's eyes went wide as his face was tossed to the side. He touched his cheek, surprised at the numbing pain on it.
"Kim Hanbin." Jennie's voice shook, watching him look back at her with surprise. "I told you to not cross the line, and yet, not only did you toe on it, but went as far over the line."
Her heart was racing in anger, making her pant for air. Her eyes were burning with wrath and yet, she had to stop herself from cutting off his tongue even after recklessly running it off. Jennie thought that Lea told him many ridiculous lies, but she didn't think Lea would make up such a ridiculous lie.
The original Jennie might've been transparent to Lea. However, the current soul knew that there was one thing the original Jennie didn't tell Lea. And that was the details of what happened that night. The original Jennie simply kept it vague, letting Lea's imagination run wild.
And thus, the very reason Jane despised Jennie to the bones at the early stages of her life in this body.
"My rapist?" Jennie let out a dry laugh, grinding her teeth. "I never told Lea anything like that. Do you know why? Because I don't remember all the details of that night. However..."
She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes, trying to calm her raging heart. When she managed to calm her racing heart, she reopened her eyes and loosened her fist.
"However, I do remember some snippets of that night." Jennie took a step closer to Hanbin, clutching the fabric on his chest as she stressed her next words. "Hanbin, how can you call my husband like that when, during that night, the person who kept saying no was not me? But him?"
The corner of her eyes turned reddish as the brief memory of the original Jennie regarding that night resurfaced in her head. "He was drugged, and I was intoxicated, but between us, I had more strength to stop. But I was horny and only thought of quenching this thirst with anyone in sight. He was there, and I pounced on him as if he was a piece of meat."
"Yet, I have the gall to be depressed and blame him for ruining my life when it was me who ruined me." Jennie let him go, pushing him away. "He was the one who kept quiet about it, Hanbin. He was the one who kept things a secret when he could've destroyed me. If someone fell in love with a rapist, it was him."
"Lisa protected me, took care of me, and took responsibility. He didn't run away even when he knew deep in his heart, I violated him," she added with a shaky voice. "Now tell me, Kim Hanbin, what in the fucking hell do you fucking know now??"
Jennie shook her head mildly while maintaining eye contact. "If there is someone who needs saving, that is Lisa Manoban. Not because he is the man and I am the woman, something like this wouldn't happen. Do you think it won't happen if you were there that night? Well maybe, because it'll be you who'll she be screwing that night. But you were right — you weren't there. You weren't there to save Lisa and take his place, so we all have nothing else to do but suck up what happened that night."
"I am warning you." She raised a finger, pointing at him. "This is the last time you'd ever crossed the line. The next time... there will never be no next time. I'm going to ruin you in a way you wouldn't even imagine, Kim Hanbin."
Jennie picked up her script and phone in a flash, glaring at him for one last time. "Don't ever talk to me again if it's not regarding work. I will never forget this."
After saying her piece, Jennie walked away without looking back at him. She wiped the lingering tears on the corner of her eyes, but her countenance retained fierceness.
Meanwhile, Hanbin was frozen on the spot. When he recovered and looked back at her, she was already gone. His lips quivered, opening and closing, but his voice was stuck in his throat.
"Jennie," he whispered after a moment, pressing his lips into a thin line, realizing he did and said something that was out of line. However, no one could turn back the time.
The damages had been done, and there was no turning back just like five years ago.
