∆ Night Five: Up Your Game ∆

As you arrived at work, your mind was buzzing—heart pounding in a way that made no sense at all. You were excited to see Lolbit.

And that was seriously messed up. You had just gone on a date with a human guy—a real, living person. Zach was sweet, charming, and cute. He'd made you laugh, kept your attention in all the right ways, and seemed genuinely interested in you. You should have been thinking about him. Maybe replaying the way he’d smiled at you when he said goodbye.

But instead, here you were, at work, thinking about a homicidal, sarcastic animatronic fox. A fox that wanted to kill you, no less.

What the hell is wrong with me?

You paused at the module door, letting that unsettling thought sink in. Maybe I need therapy. You let out a grim laugh at the idea. Then again, who wouldn't after working in this hellhole?

Stepping into the primary module, the familiar hum of the machinery greeted you, but the emptiness hit harder. Lolbit wasn’t there. Normally, the moment you walked in, he'd be lounging in the chair, spinning in circles like some bored child, teasing you with that signature smirk plastered on his face. The sight of him was what you had come to expect, like clockwork.

But tonight? Nothing.

Your heart sank a little, and you cursed yourself for being disappointed. It was ridiculous. You shook off the feeling and leaned against the desk, glancing toward the monitor, hoping he was just running late. Maybe he's busy, you told yourself, though it wasn't like he had a job or anything.

With a sigh, you sat down on the edge of the desk, leaving the chair empty. It felt wrong to sit there. That was his spot. It left you feeling… off-balance, somehow.

You pulled out your sketchbook, trying to distract yourself. Your pencil moved almost on its own, and soon enough, you found yourself doodling again—him. Of course, you thought with a self-deprecating smirk. Lolbit had been living rent-free in your head for days now, and you hated admitting it, but his presence was hard to ignore.

And somehow, he’d even managed to push aside the search for your father, the thing you swore would be your focus. Now, though, he was the one filling your thoughts, overshadowing everything that really mattered.

But... he was kind of fun to draw. The sharp angles, the sly grin, the way his mechanical body never quite moved like it should.

Several sketches later, the familiar crackle of static caught your ear. You looked up just in time to see Lolbit stumble out out of the monitor, his body hitting the ground with a graceless thud. You wondered, not for the first time, why didn’t he just float down—It seemed like the obvious thing for him to do, given his powers.

Still, there was something endearing about how disjointed his movements were.

“Hi, Lolbit!” you greeted, the smile on your face coming naturally despite yourself.

His ears twitched at the sound of your voice, those unnerving white-dot eyes snapping to yours with a sharpness that made your breath catch. For a moment, he stayed crouched on the floor, his gaze piercing through the dim light of the room.

No response. No snarky quip.

Slowly, he straightened, his lithe, metallic frame moving in that same unnerving, glitchy way. He started toward the chair, then stopped when you spoke again.

“How was your day?” Your voice came softer than you intended. You were trying to sound casual, but there was an undeniable edge of anticipation there. Why does this matter so much?
