∆ A kiss- a Spark ∆

Your lunch date with Zach had gone smoothly, at least on the surface. Zach was charming, attentive, and sweet—everything you'd expect in a guy. He even walked you home afterward, and as the cool evening air nipped at your skin, you pulled your jacket tighter around yourself, trying to stay engaged in the conversation.

But your mind kept wandering. Thoughts of Lolbit crept in, along with what Zach had mentioned about William’s email matching the name of the company that owned the place you worked at. Had you unknowingly been working under him all this time? Did that mean he truly was some sick, vile monster who killed kids? And could he have built Lolbit, making him and the others kill children?

You wished Zach had made the connection sooner, before you sent that email—before you reached out to a possible murderer.

As you neared your apartment building, Zach’s voice pulled you from your thoughts. “I could come inside, if you want? Maybe walk you to work later?” He offered casually, though you could hear a hint of eagerness.

You hesitated. You wanted to say no, which only made you feel worse. You should want to say yes, right? Zach was trying to get close to you, to move things forward, but all you could think about was Lolbit. The guilt gnawed at you, an uncomfortable knot in your chest.

Your heart didn't want Zach.

Still, you forced a smile. “Sure.”

Maybe if you spent more time with Zach, your feelings for Lolbit would fade. You just needed to focus on something normal for a change. And right now, you needed to give this relationship a real chance. Lolbit was just a robot; it was time to let go of these feelings that would never be returned.

Zach smiled, his eyes lighting up. “Awesome. I'm kinda excited to see your place.”

You chuckled, trying to downplay it. “I wouldn’t be. It’s kind of a dump.” You muttered, a hint of embarrassment creeping into your voice.

It wasn't much, just a small, functional space—enough to get by. You let Zach enter first, watching as he took a few steps into your apartment and stood there, taking in the sparse furniture and bare walls. His gaze lingered on the scattered items, the lack of personal touches.

“Well... it's—” he began, searching for the right word.

“Bland? Boring? Trash?” You teased with a smirk, crossing your arms over your chest.

“Nooo, it's… cute," he replied, but his hesitation gave him away.

You rolled your eyes. “Sure,” you muttered, walking past him to drop your bag on the bed. “You can sit wherever, I'm gonna change real quick.” You grabbed a fresh set of clothes from your nightstand and headed for the bathroom, feeling a strange tension in your chest as you closed the door behind you.

Inside, you leaned against the sink and took a deep breath. Why did being with Zach feel so off? Why couldn't you get Lolbit’s stupid face out of your head?

*He's just a machine—why is your heart doing this to you?*

The thought echoed in your mind as you sighed heavily, slipping into more comfortable clothes for work. You added your clothes to the growing pile in the corner, deciding you'd figure out where the laundromat was later. When you finally stepped out of the bathroom, Zach sat at your desk, flipping through the artwork you had left out. His fingers delicately traced over the lines, a genuine smile playing on his lips.
