and y/h/t is your hometown
Calum:
"Calum I'm nervous what if someone doesn't like me?" you say, putting in your other earring.
"y/n, I can tell you for a fact that everyone will like you because I love you." he smiles, putting his hands around your waist. You look in the mirror and realize that you forgot to put mascara on. You start freaking out and looking for it when Calum grabs your hand.
"Babe you look fine, we're gonna be late." he smiles, pulling you closer to him.
You sigh and grab your phone and shove it into your pocket. You run down the stairs and put on your shoes. He opens the door for you and you run out with your ponytail bouncing with every step. You hop in the car and sit nervously during the ten minute drive over to Calum's parent's house. You hop out and stand timidly by the car door. Calum walks over and takes you by the hand and brings you inside. You are greeted by the delicious smell of mashed potatoes and steak and you smile. You see Calum's dad walk into the front hallway and smile. He hugs Calum and shakes your hand.
"I'm David, you must be y/n"
"It's nice to meet you." you smile at him. He leads you into the kitchen where you see his mom putting the food on the center of the table.
"Joy, y/n is here." David says.
She turns around and a huge smile is written across her face. She hugs you then hugs Calum.
"It's so nice to finally meet you, I've heard so much."
"Same with you." you smile again.
"Come, sit down, we just have to wait a second for Calum's grandmother to get here." she prompts. You feel Calum's hand snake around your back to lead you to a seat. He takes the one to the right of you and you feel calmer now that you're sitting. You partake in small talk, resulting in you telling the story of exactly how you met Calum and Joy telling how she met David. After about twenty minutes, you hear the door opening and you clench up again. Just as you're getting warmed up with his parents, you hear the click of heels as his grandma walks into the room.
"Nice of you to join us." David laughs as she sits down next to him.
"Nice of you to wait for me." she rolls her eyes.
She begins to pick up the bowl of mashed potatoes when she looks up at you.
"Who's this?" she says with a little attitude.
You try to respond, but your words don't come out. Joy notices and saves you.
"This is Calum's girlfriend, y/n."
"Didn't know we'd have guests." his grandma says, putting the potatoes on her plate and setting the bowl back down.
"You know you're technically a guest here too." Joy whispers, and it's the first sly thing you've heard her say. Calum grabs the food and begins to serve you the amounts that you want, as he's trying to help your shaky hands. After all the food gets passed around, you wait for Calum to start before you begin eating. Just as you're about to put the first bite in your mouth, his grandma chimes in.
"So where are you from?"
"y/h/t."
"Interesting."
You lightly smile as you start to put that same bite into your mouth.
"How'd you meet?" she says, stuffing a huge spoonful of potato into her mouth.
"Well we were both on tour and my good friend Alex introduced us."
"Alex who? How does he know Calum?"
"Alex Gaskarth, grandma, you know, one of my biggest inspirations."
She sighs and continues eating. After eating for a while, you realize you have the biggest urge to pee so you turn to Calum and quietly ask him where it is.
"I'll show you there." he smiles and grabs your hand to help you stand up. He walks you down the hallway and up the stairs with your hand still in his.
"I'm sorry, I know she can be rough." he says when he gets to the door.
"It's okay, Calum, it's not your fault. I'm fine." you lightly smile at him to prove your point. He immediately recognizes that your smile is forced so her places his hand on your cheek and kisses your lips.
"You're doing great." he smiles, looking into your eyes.
You smile again before saying, "look Calum I really have to pee though." he laughs and lets you go inside before you hear his feet running down the stairs. You hear the light muffle of conversation, as the bathroom is right above the dining room. The conversation starts to get louder as you wipe your hands on the towel, so you walk down the stairs and slowly walk into the room.
"I'm just saying she's not really dressed like a woman, how do you know she's not a lesbian."
"Because why would she be dating me?"
"I don't know, as a cover up for her band? She's too scared to admit it?"
"Look, I know you're my grandma and I'm morally obliged to respect you, but what the hell? You're being horrible. You show up twenty minutes late, making my mom's food that she spent hours making, cold. You think you can just waltz right in here and make up things about someone that I love? I introduced her to you guys because I knew you guys would love her almost as much as I do, but apparently I was wrong."
You had been inching your way closer to the room the whole time and you find yourself awkwardly standing there by the time Calum has finished yelling and his chest is pumping in and out and he's breathing heavily. Joy silently picks up the dishes and walks into the kitchen. You take a step and your shoe squeaks against the floor and Calum turns to you. His face drops and his eye twitches. You shyly rub your right arm with your left and look at him with as much strength as you can muster.
"I think it's getting late, Calum and y/n, why don't I walk you out?" David suggests, grabbing Calum's shoulder to lead him away. He tries to deflect it, but his father insists by placing his hand more firmly on his shoulder.
His grandma stands up but Calum glares at her and walks past you to the door. He leaves it open for you to follow him, but you're frozen solid.
She stands up to walk over to you, but David leads you out the door and closes it behind the both of you.
"I know she can be rough, but I've never seen her like this. I can tell you right now that both me and Joy really love Calum and we can see how happy you make him and we don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. And because of that, we won't be allowing her to see you unless there's no way around it."
You awkwardly smile at him, knowing that he meant what he said.
"You should probably drive home too, I don't trust Calum's motor skills when he's in this state." he smiles.
"Will do." you smile.
"Good night, y/n."
"Good night, David." you smile, walking over to the car.
Calum is leaning on the hood of the car and you sit on the hood next to him.
"I'm sorry." he whispers.
You just wrap you arm around him and grab the car keys from his pocket and kiss his cheek.
"Let's go home, yeah?" you smile. He nods and you go to the passenger's side of the car and open it, waiting for him to get inside. When he does, you smile at yourself and you skip around to the driver's side.
