Contrary to popular beliefs, it's not always the dad who leaves his family on their own. Sometimes it's the mom who leaves her family.
And in Chan's case, his girlfriend Jinseo left him alone with their baby a few months after the baby was born, explaining that she was struggling with post partum depression and could not take care of the baby in a way that was needed.

Chan was left alone with his baby, Jisung.
Thankfully he had a sturdy help net if he ever needed.
His mom and dad. On an occasion he would let Jin-Seo's parents meet the little baby and take care of him.
And should there ever be a moment when Jin-Seo wants to have contact on Jisung, he would never deprive either of them from seeing each other.

The woman has always been good, she was loyal and Chan knew her reasons for leaving were real because they had talked about it prior to her leaving and it's not like she just took and left. They mutually discussed it.
Obviously the man was disappointed and gloomy, but he understood, because that's who he is, an understanding man.
But he is also a single father. And single fathers can get tired too.

"I'm so sorry Chan. I thought I could do it- but I can't."
The woman sat next to Chan on the couch with their child, Jisung in her arms. She loved him, but she could not take care of him the way the child deserves.
"I understand. Do your parents still want to see him?"

Chan definitely understood why Jinseo was exhausted. They hadn't planned to have a child this early in their life.
Both being twenty three, they had originally planned to work for a couple years and save up so they can afford to take care of a child. But universe had other plans for them.

"If you allow them to, that would be really nice. They love Sungie."
"Of course. I wouldn't want to deprive Jisung from his grandparents."

They hugged and Jinseo kissed both Chan and Jisung goodbye after telling the man she would be moving overseas to start her life fresh.

"Baba!"
"Sungie baby, sit down. Baba is making you food."

Chan stood in front of the stove boiling the potatoes and heating the meat sauce from yesterday.
It was hard to do it while trying to look after the two year old running around the two bedroom apartment.
He set some potatoes on the plate that had a penguin on it.
It was a penguin plate divided into two sections and the fork had the word penguin on it.
