Ankit stood silently between the two sisters, sipping his wine.
As the conversation flowed, Natasha subtly offered Maya a glass of wine, laced with something far more sinister. Without hesitation, Maya drank it. But as soon as the glass was emptied, her expression shifted. Her eyes, cold and calculating, locked onto Natasha.
For a moment, Maya said nothing, but a sudden discomfort made her rub her temples in irritation. It didn't take long for her to understand what had happened-who was responsible, and why.
The drug Natasha had used was potent. Almost immediately, Maya's body began to react. Her skin flushed a deep red, her pulse racing.
Heat and sharp pain surged through her, yet Maya remained silent, swallowing her agony as her body stiffened, rigid with pain. To her, it felt as if venomous insects were crawling beneath her skin, stinging with every movement.
Out of the corner of her eye, Natasha watched, feigning innocence, but Maya's icy gaze caught her off guard. Natasha felt a flicker of fear, though she had drugged Maya before. Normally, the drugs had no effect, but today was different.
Six years ago, Maya had survived a near-fatal accident. Her injuries were so severe that her survival had been nothing short of miraculous. The aftermath of the accident had led to a year-long course of intense medication, one that had rendered her immune to most drugs. But today, Natasha's concoction was working, and it was working fast.
Ankit, noticing the sudden change in Maya's appearance, felt uneasy.
"Maya, are you alright? You're looking... unwell. Your face is flushed," he asked, his voice laced with concern.
Maya forced a tight, pained smile. "Someone tampered with my drink... probably slipped in a drug."
"What?" Ankit's voice sharpened with anger. Someone had dared to drug his closest friend at his own party. His eyes flashed with fury.
Natasha played her part to perfection, her voice laced with false concern. "But how could that happen? I gave you the drink myself! And you're usually immune to these things, aren't you, sister? How could this affect you?"
Maya turned to Natasha, her lips curving into a knowing smile. Natasha's acting was flawless-no one could detect the malice behind her innocent face.
"This isn't an ordinary drug, Natasha," Maya said coolly.
Ankit, still brimming with concern, interrupted, "Maya, you should rest. I'll call a doctor and check the CCTV footage. Whoever did this... I'll make them regret it."
His worry was clear; his feelings for Maya were no secret. They had been friends since childhood, but for Ankit, the bond was deeper. He wasn't just concerned-he was furious.
Maya clenched her fists, forcing herself to stay calm. "No need, Ankit. I've already told Sumit. He'll take care of it. You should focus on your guests. I'll go to my room."
She paused, her eyes narrowing as they rested on Natasha. "And whoever did this will pay dearly."
Natasha stiffened. Was that a threat? The way Maya looked at her-it was hard to tell.
Ankit handed Maya a key. "Room 7, on the sixth floor. The entire floor is reserved for guests to rest."
"Thank you," Maya said curtly before walking away, brushing off Natasha's insistence to accompany her.
Once she left, Natasha quickly slipped away to a corner, texting someone. "Go to room 7 on the sixth floor. Do what you must. I want Maya in such a state by tomorrow that even Grandpa will be disgusted to look at her."
As she sent the message, a wicked smile crossed her lips. "Enough of this sisterly charade. Tomorrow, it ends."
But before Natasha could revel in her victory, a strong hand grabbed her and yanked her into the shadows. Before she could scream, a syringe pierced her neck, and she collapsed.
Meanwhile, Maya entered the resort, her legs growing unsteady as the drug continued to take hold. Her vision blurred, and her breathing grew shallow. She stumbled into the elevator, leaning against the wall, trying to steady herself.
As the elevator doors slid open, a large hand gripped her wrist. She turned, eyes blazing despite her weakened state. It was Rohit.
His gaze swept over her. "I heard someone drugged you?"
Maya's lips curled into a defiant sneer. "Yes, they did. So what?"
Rohit sighed, running a hand through his hair. Even in pain, she maintained her fiery spirit. "Maya, let me help you. Just for once, forget the past."
Her eyes turned even colder. "I don't need anyone's help. Least of all yours." She ripped her hand from his grasp and stormed toward her room.
Rohit watched her retreat, concern etched in his features. "Call a doctor," he ordered Akshay, his right-hand man.
"Yes, boss," Akshay replied, quickly stepping aside to make the call.
Rohit followed Maya, muttering under his breath, "Why are you so stubborn, Maya? I'm not the one you should be angry with."
He reached her door and knocked gently. "Maya, sweetheart. Please open the door. I've called the doctors."
Inside, Maya stood against the door, hearing his words but making no move to respond. Her condition was deteriorating rapidly. Sweat dripped from her brow as she tried to maintain control.
Suddenly, a voice broke the silence in the room. "Why fight it, darling? Come here, I'll make the pain go away."
Maya's eyes snapped open. Lying on the bed was Mahesh Verma-Natasha's lecherous uncle.
Fury surged through her. Mahesh got up, inching toward her with a smirk. "No need to suffer alone, my dear."
With a growl, Maya grabbed him by the throat and slammed his head against the wall. Mahesh screamed in pain, but Maya didn't relent.
"You want to take my pain away?" she hissed, lifting him off the ground by his neck. "Let me show you what real pain feels like."
Mahesh's eyes bulged in terror as Maya tightened her grip, choking the life out of him.
