Rory's determination grew with each passing day. She was ready to face Jai and bring an end to his games.
"Elijah, I'm ready to face Jai," Rory said, her voice firm.
Elijah's expression turned cautious. "We need to ensure your safety. Jai's lawyers will stop at nothing."
Detective Patel arrived, his face grim. "Jai's lawyers are getting desperate. They'll try to discredit you, Rory."
Rory steeled herself. "I'm prepared."
Patel handed her a folder. "This is the evidence we've gathered. Study it carefully."
Rory spent the next few hours poring over documents and witness statements.
As she read, her anger grew. Jai's deceit knew no bounds.
Just then, Elijah's phone buzzed.
"It's the DA's office," Elijah said, answering the call.
Rory watched as Elijah's expression changed from calm to alert.
"What?" Elijah asked, his voice sharp.
Rory's heart skipped a beat.
"We have a problem," Elijah said, ending the call. "Jai's lawyers have filed a motion to dismiss."
Rory's eyes widened. "What?"
Elijah's face hardened. "We'll fight it."
The tension in the room was palpable.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it," Elijah said, his hand on his gun.
Rory's heart pounded as Elijah opened the door.
"Detective James," Elijah said, his voice neutral.
James's eyes locked onto Rory's. "We need to talk."
Rory's instincts screamed warning.
"What is it?" Elijah asked, his tone firm.
James hesitated. "New evidence has surfaced."
Rory's world began to spin.
"What kind of evidence?" Elijah demanded.
James's expression turned grim. "A witness has come forward."
Rory's heart sank.
"Who?" Elijah asked.
James's eyes locked onto Rory's.
"Someone from your past."
