The morning sunlight poured into the Lee Group office, illuminating the buzz of activity. Jungwon was at his desk, diligently working on the latest project when he noticed a commotion at the reception area. Curious, he stood up to see what was happening.
A delivery person was handing over a large bouquet of vibrant flowers. The scent wafted through the air, drawing the attention of several employees, who began to whisper among themselves. Jungwon frowned slightly as he approached, wondering who the recipient could be.
"Who's it for?" one of his coworkers asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"Looks like it's for Jungwon," the receptionist replied, her voice laced with excitement.
Jungwon's heart raced as he took in the colorful arrangement. "What? That's not—" he began, but the receptionist had already placed the bouquet on his desk.
The flowers were stunning—roses, lilies, and a few wildflowers mixed in, all tied together with a bright blue ribbon. Jungwon could only stare, flabbergasted. He felt his cheeks heat up as whispers turned into chatter.
"Wow, who's your secret admirer, Jungwon?" another colleague teased, a grin spreading across her face.
"Yeah, spill it!" another chimed in, laughter ringing out around him.
Jungwon shook his head, a little embarrassed. "I have no idea who sent this."
Just then, Heeseung emerged from a meeting room, his expression shifting from focused to incredulous as he caught sight of the flowers. His brows furrowed, and he approached Jungwon, arms crossed.
"Really? Flowers? For you?" Heeseung asked, his voice laced with irritation, though he tried to sound casual. "From who?"
"I don't know!" Jungwon replied, trying to defuse the tension. "They just showed up."
Heeseung's jaw tightened as he scanned the office, his mind racing. It must be Taehyun, he thought, recalling how his friend had been unusually curious about Jungwon. The thought of Taehyun sending flowers—just because—irritated him more than he wanted to admit.
"Hey, are you going to keep them?" Heeseung asked, attempting to sound indifferent but failing to hide the edge in his voice.
"Of course! I mean, they're beautiful," Jungwon said, glancing at the flowers again. "It's nice to know someone appreciates my work."
"Right," Heeseung replied, a hint of sarcasm creeping in. "Just make sure it's not some weird pity gift."
Before Jungwon could respond, a cheerful voice interrupted. "Hey, Jungwon! Nice flowers!" Sunoo, a new hire in the marketing department, bounced over, his bright demeanor infectious.
"Thanks! But I'm not sure who they're from," Jungwon admitted, smiling at Sunoo, The HR Manager.
Sunoo peered at the bouquet, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "They must be from someone special! You have to find out. I mean, look at how colorful they are!"
Jungwon chuckled, feeling a bit lighter. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask around."
Sunoo leaned closer, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. "I've heard some rumors that you're quite popular around here. You might want to watch out for admirers!"
"Popular? Me?" Jungwon laughed, shaking his head. "I don't think so."
Sunoo's smile widened. "Trust me, you're doing great. If I were you, I'd enjoy the attention."
Just then, Heeseung, unable to contain his frustration, interrupted, "Are you done? We have work to do, Sunoo."
Sunoo straightened, a mischievous glint in his eye as he exchanged glances with Jungwon. "Relax, Heeseung! I'm just trying to help Jungwon enjoy his newfound fame."
"Fame is overrated," Heeseung retorted, his gaze lingering on Jungwon. "He should focus on actual work instead of flower arrangements."
"Okay, okay, I get it!" Sunoo raised his hands in mock surrender. "But seriously, Jungwon, you're welcome to hang out with us anytime. I'd love to show you around the city."
Jungwon felt a surge of excitement at the invitation. "I'd like that. Thanks, Sunoo Hyung."
As Sunoo walked away, Heeseung crossed his arms, a hint of annoyance still etched on his face. "You really should be more careful with who you trust, Jungwon. Not everyone has your best interests at heart."
"Why do you care?" Jungwon asked, genuinely curious.
"Because," Heeseung replied, his tone sharper than intended, "I don't want to see you get caught up in some office drama."
Jungwon shrugged, feeling a mix of frustration and determination. "I can handle myself, Hyung. I appreciate the concern, but I'm here to do my job."
"Fine. Just make sure you don't get distracted," Heeseung said, his expression softening slightly, though he quickly masked it with a smirk. "You don't want to be known as 'the assistant with flowers.'"
"Great, now I have a reputation to uphold," Jungwon shot back, rolling his eyes.
As Heeseung walked away, Jungwon glanced at the bouquet again, feeling an odd mixture of pride and annoyance. The day had taken an unexpected turn, but he felt invigorated by the new connections he was making.
With Sunoo's friendly demeanor and the mystery of the flowers, Jungwon was eager to explore this new chapter in his life, focusing on work and friendships.
