The office hummed with a lively energy as employees wrapped up their tasks for the week. Jungwon sat at his desk, focused intently on a report, when he felt a presence beside him. He looked up to see Taehyun, leaning casually against the edge of his desk, a playful smile on his face.
"Hey, Jungwon! Got a minute?" Taehyun asked, his voice light and inviting.
"Of course! What's up?" Jungwon replied, his heart racing slightly. Taehyun's charm was hard to resist, and the way he carried himself made Jungwon feel special.
"I was wondering if you'd like to grab dinner with me tonight," Taehyun said, his tone casual yet hopeful. "Just the two of us. I know a great place."
Jungwon blinked in surprise, his mind racing. A date? It was flattering, but he hesitated, glancing back toward Heeseung's office. Heeseung had been particularly distant lately, and Jungwon wasn't sure how he would feel about this.
Before he could answer, a loud cough echoed from the other side of the office. All heads turned as Heeseung stumbled into view, one hand pressed dramatically against his forehead. "Ugh, I feel terrible," he groaned, his voice dripping with faux misery.
"Are you okay?" Jungwon rushed to his side, concern flooding his features. "What's wrong?"
"I think I might be coming down with something," Heeseung replied, his expression exaggerated. "I really shouldn't be here, but I didn't want to let the team down..."
Taehyun's eyes narrowed slightly as he processed the situation. Heeseung was clearly putting on an act. "Maybe you should see a doctor," he suggested, glancing between them.
"No, no," Heeseung insisted, waving his hand weakly. "I just need...someone to take care of me. Jungwon, could you help me? I really don't want to be alone right now."
Jungwon hesitated, torn between his growing friendship with Taehyun and the urgent need to care for Heeseung. "Are you sure? I can help you later..."
"Please," Heeseung interrupted, his voice taking on a pleading note. "I wouldn't ask if it wasn't serious."
Taehyun shifted, clearly annoyed but trying to mask it with a smile. "I understand, but Jungwon was just about to make plans with me. Maybe you should just rest."
Heeseung shot a pointed glance at Taehyun, his expression a mix of defiance and desperation. "I really need Jungwon right now," he insisted, leaning slightly closer to Jungwon, as if drawing strength from his presence.
Jungwon's heart sank as he realized Heeseung was deliberately sabotaging his chance at a date. "Uh, maybe I should check on you for a bit, and then we can reschedule, Taehyun?" he suggested hesitantly, hoping to appease both of them.
"Sure, of course," Taehyun said, masking his disappointment with a tight smile. "Take care of yourself, Heeseung."
As Taehyun walked away, Heeseung let out a small sigh of relief, but it was mixed with a hint of guilt. "Thanks for bailing me out there," he said, his tone softening as he turned to Jungwon.
"I don't know if it was fair to Taehyun," Jungwon replied, shaking his head. "He was just asking me out."
"Yeah, well... I'm not ready for that," Heeseung said, his voice barely above a whisper, but the vulnerability in his tone made Jungwon's heart flutter.
"Are you really sick?" Jungwon asked, raising an eyebrow as he led Heeseung to a quiet break room, away from prying eyes.
"Not really," Heeseung admitted with a sheepish smile. "But I couldn't let you go out with him. Not like that."
Jungwon crossed his arms, torn between irritation and amusement. "So you faked being sick just to keep me here?"
"I just... I wanted to spend time with you," Heeseung said, his voice more earnest now. "It's been a while since we've had a chance to talk."
Jungwon couldn't help but smile, a warmth spreading through him. "Okay, but next time, you can't just pretend to be sick. That's not fair."
"Deal," Heeseung said, his expression brightening. "I promise I'll be honest next time."
As they settled into a comfortable silence, Jungwon felt a shift in their dynamic. Heeseung's bravado was still present, but beneath it, he sensed a deeper vulnerability that drew him in.
"What do you want to do now?" Jungwon asked, trying to keep the mood light.
"Honestly? I just want to talk," Heeseung replied, leaning back in his chair, his gaze steady on Jungwon. "I want to get to know you better."
Jungwon's heart raced at the unexpected sincerity in Heeseung's words. "Okay," he said softly, feeling a sense of excitement. "What do you want to know?"
And as they began to share stories and laughter, the weight of unspoken feelings hung in the air between them, shifting their relationship in ways they were both beginning to understand.
