Curiosity mixed with excitement as Jungwon navigated through the office, trying to maintain focus on his work despite the whispers that followed him.
On a particularly busy Thursday afternoon, as Jungwon was reviewing reports, he noticed a familiar figure entering the office—Taehyun, Heeseung's friend and the CEO of one of South Korea's largest IT support companies. Taehyun always had an easy charm about him, and he greeted everyone with a warm smile.
"Hey, Jungwon!" Taehyun called out as he approached Jungwon's desk. "How's everything going?"
"Pretty good, thanks!" Jungwon replied, trying to shake off the nerves that came with Taehyun's presence. "Just trying to keep up with the workload."
"Glad to hear it!" Taehyun leaned against the desk, glancing around before lowering his voice. "I saw those flowers you got. Who's the lucky admirer?"
Jungwon chuckled awkwardly. "Still trying to figure that out myself. They just showed up out of nowhere."
"Interesting," Taehyun said, a sly grin creeping onto his face. "Well, I hope they're not distracting you too much."
Just then, the receptionist buzzed through the intercom. "Delivery for Jungwon!"
Jungwon raised an eyebrow as he watched the receptionist greet a delivery person carrying a medium-sized box. The room buzzed with interest, and he could feel the collective anticipation of his coworkers.
"Another package?" Taehyun smirked, clearly enjoying the moment. "You really are popular."
As the receptionist handed the box to Jungwon, he carefully opened it, revealing a stunning leather notebook and a set of high-quality pens. Tucked inside was a small card that read: For the talented assistant—keep creating magic. —Taehyun
"Wow, this is really nice!" Jungwon exclaimed, genuinely impressed by the thoughtful gift. "Thank you, Taehyun hyung!"
Taehyun shrugged, looking pleased. "I thought it might come in handy for your work. Plus, it's always good to have something nice to write in. Do you like the flowers anyway?"
Jungwon chuckled. "So, that was from you too, hyung?"
Wonyoung's expression hardened. "How generous of him. I mean, it's not like anyone else in the office works hard, right?"
"Wonyoung, come on," Taehyun interjected, attempting to diffuse the tension. "Jungwon's been doing great work. He deserves a little recognition."
"Recognition?" Wonyoung scoffed. "Is that what this is? Because it looks more like favoritism to me."
Sunoo, who had been observing from a distance, decided to step in. "Wonyoung, that's a bit harsh, don't you think? Jungwon is putting in the effort, and it's nice to see him getting some acknowledgment."
"Actually, he does," Sunoo replied, standing firm. "Everyone deserves to be recognized for their hard work, especially when they're doing as well as Jungwon is. You should try supporting him instead of tearing him down."
The tension in the air crackled, and Jungwon felt a swell of gratitude for Sunoo's defense. It was a relief to have someone in his corner.
Jungwon felt a warmth spreading through him. "I really appreciate it. It's unexpected, but I'll definitely use it."
Heeseung walked by just then, his eyes narrowing as he took in the scene. The sight of Taehyun and Jungwon sharing a moment, surrounded by the bouquet and now the new gift, sparked something in him—a flicker of irritation.
"What's going on here?" Heeseung asked, his tone sharper than intended.
"Just admiring the gift Taehyun hyung sent," Jungwon replied, trying to keep the mood light.
"Gift? Is that what we're calling it now?" Heeseung said, crossing his arms. "You're collecting gifts like they're trophies."
"Relax, Heeseung," Taehyun said, a teasing lilt in his voice. "It's just a notebook. I figured Jungwon could use it for all the great work he's doing."
"Right," Heeseung replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Because everyone gets notebooks as gifts."
Jungwon sensed the tension rising and stepped in. "It's really thoughtful, Heeseung hyung. Taehyun hyung is just being supportive."
"Supportive or distracting?" Heeseung challenged, his gaze focused on Taehyun.
Taehyun, undeterred, shrugged with a grin. "I'm just a friend looking out for another friend. No harm in that, right?"
"Just make sure it doesn't turn into something more than friendship," Heeseung retorted, his irritation barely concealed.
Jungwon felt a pang of discomfort at the escalating tension. "Come on, guys. Let's just focus on work."
Heeseung let out a huff but relented, glancing at Jungwon, then back at Taehyun. "Whatever. Just remember, Jungwon, you're here to work, not to collect gifts and admirers."
"Got it," Jungwon said, trying to ease the mood. "I'm just happy to have support. Thanks again, Taehyun hyung."
As Taehyun chuckled and returned to his discussions, Jungwon felt a mix of gratitude and confusion. Heeseung's protectiveness was becoming increasingly obvious, but it only added to the complexity of their dynamic.
With the new notebook resting on his desk, Jungwon tried to focus on his tasks, but the underlying tension lingered. He knew he needed to navigate these waters carefully—between friendships, gifts, and the growing pressure of expectations. For now, he would concentrate on his work and let the rest unfold as it would.
