Near The Truth

Chapter 2- Realizing a Dream

The taxi was slow. Marc was looking at the night sky, thinking of the secrets hiding behind that shining curtain of stars. He had tried so desperately to imagine that look in a 4th dimension perspective before,but now he was happy,knowing that that secret would be revealed the next day. . . Eventually his wife appeared in his imaginations. He thought about the big changes his life would take. Marc had never felt the feeling of raising a child before and he still couldn't. He knew that big responsibilities were waiting for him. He needed to make his child feel proud of his father. A success would make that thing possible and last forever. However, none had ever tried such a dangerous experiment before.

"None had the possibility to try it before. If they had it, they would. Definitely, they would!"

This idea was keeping Marc optimistic about his choice. But he knew he couldn't say something that scary to his wife. She would never let him try the experiment. As the taxi was now driving faster, Marc was thinking of the ways how to lie her. Although his determination for the 4th dimension was big, his love towards Jenny was mixing his ideas up. Jenny was becoming so attached to him and her support for his big project was slowly fading.

"Don't you think you are wasting your time with that?"

This words from Jenny confused him . . .

The sky was shining brighter now as if a lot more stars appeared in just a second. Marc then stopped thinking about Jenny's support. Although the words were bad, she said the sentence because she didn't want him to suffer from his experiment anymore.

The taxi stopped at his small wooden house. Marc knocked on the old door. At last, he decided to lie her so the whole family life could be better in the future. After a minute Jenny opened the door and hugged him as if she missed him for a long time. Marc sat in his sofa, struggling with his emotions. However, he managed to keep an innocent look in his face. Jenny approached him, awaiting for him to say something. But only after some seconds, Marc reacted.

"I am sorry I left without discussing about our beautiful future."

He stood up and looked her deeply into her eyes.

"Jack's call looked so important."

At this moment Marc, needed to make his strategic move. After he kissed her slowly, he made his decision.

"It was nothing important. Those idiots were drunk and playing with a monkey. Can you believe this? They had even dressed the poor monkey in circus clothes!"

He was now waiting for her reaction. His heart was beating faster as he expected, but his face looked still faultless. Jenny didn't realize his lie and fell in his plan. She laughed a little.

"Well, it seems the experiment is giving its results!"

Marc followed her laugh with a smile.

"The Experiment it's not going to fail. We are getting close."

He kissed her again and they went steadily to their sleeping room . . .

Although weak, the sunlight was strong enough to wake Marc up. He realized that Jenny was still sleeping. Preparing a breakfast would be his best option. After he prepared some bacon with eggs, Marc looked at the clock. It was 8 AM. He left the food on the table in the kitchen and started to write a note in a paper next to it.

"Seems you slept so well. I will not let you sweat this time so I prepared what I could."

It was the best time for him to leave. He needed to lie again. Marc continued to write.

"Unfortunately, I need to leave again. So early? Yes, Brian called and he looked very serious this time. Maybe the experiment did gave its results yesterday. Wait for me. Bye, love you! "

After he finished the note, Marc was confused. He didn't know if he should feel guilty or not. After some minutes standing still and staring at the paper, his scientific ideas won again. Marc left the house and took a taxi to the far factory. Although that everyday-taxi was expensive, he had no other choice. But this day, he was not thinking about this details . . .

He arrived in the factory at 9:30 AM. After Marc entered the "Experiment Room" he was astonished. He was not expecting to see Brian and Jack so early in the room.

"What are you guys doing so early here?"

Brian replied loudly looking at Marc's eyes.

"Well, yesterday we did what you asked for. The program can now work for human bodies."

Suddenly he became angry.

"But, guess what? We changed our minds! We are not letting anyone use it!"

Marc was shocked. His dreams were now collapsing. Jack then started to talk in a peaceful way.

"He is right Marc. It's too dangerous. We are not destroying our big work. However, we need to wait."

Marc's patience lost immediately. He started shouting.

"Are you fuckin' crazy?! This, is the future waiting for us! What, you don't care now?!"

He started to look at the machines buttons, knowing exactly each ones function. The chamber could only be activated from the outside. He needed someone to activate it for him. The big screen of the machine was showing a human DNA structure with some words on the left: "Human DNA Stabilizer activated, No DNA detected". There were countless buttons in the machine. There was only one big button, closed and painted in black, named "Power". The Machine's work was easy. It needed to rotate the whole chamber next to it, keeping the object stabilized with countless ropes, in the center of it. The rotations were fast enough to create a small "Wormhole" designed for human DNA. Marc could wait no longer.

"I will enter the chamber and you guys will activate the machine!"

Jack and Brian answered both at the same time.

"No!"

Jack tried again to solve the situation with his patience.

"Marc, seriously now. We don't even know this place."

Marc seemed to care less about his words. Jack continued.

"We don't even know who created this secret place in the factory! We only built this 4th dimension Chamber! What is the meaning of that touchpad license plate? The entry code that we found carved in one of the factory machine? What is this technology?! We have done only a little here! "

Marc reacted. His personality was slowly changing.

"How many times have we spoken about this thing? It was long time ago! We could not realize the meaning! But with this experiment we can! Truth is waiting for us! "

He took a pistol hanging on the wall in the opposite side of the machine. The pistol was in red color and word "Emergency" was carved on it.

Jack was totally shocked of Marc's change of personality.

"I can't believe this! Are you Marc? What the fuck are you doing?"

Marc's mind was in chaos. He had forgotten his family and his ambition had taken over. He pointed the gun to Brian.

"Activate it!"

"No!"

"Oh you will!"

Marc then shot the Brian's leg making him to immediately fall down. Brian shouted in pain.

"What is going on?!"

Jack understood Marc was serious.

"Okay then! I will activate it. I don't care! Just fuckin' leave this place!"

Marc's face had a mixture of colors. He rushed inside the chamber. Jack tied Marc tight with the ropes and went out to push the button. Brian, still down and agonizing in pain, looked scared at the chamber. Jack finally activated the machine.

The chamber began to rotate slowly.
