Ashley continued to speak.
"There is a lot of things you don't know, Anton. For example, did you notice this people's habits?"
Anton looked closely at John and Giuseppe.
"Well, it looks to me that this people are fans of the past. John likes "The Beatles" and Giuseppe looks like the Godfather."
While John and Giuseppe were smiling, Ashley explained the situation.
"Kind of. They have really come from another time. As I said, we are experiments that went wrong. Most of our past bodies may be dead. There were actually a lot of attempts of 4th dimension or time-travel long time ago. John really comes from "The Beatles". He lived at that time and he never leaves his round sunglasses now. John doesn't want to forget his past. Well . . . a little part of it. We can remember nothing of what we were at that time. None of us knows what they worked or if they had a family."
Allan raised his hand.
"Except of us."
Ashley laughed.
"Yes. Actually I and Allan were couple since we did the experiment together. It was 2015, right honey?"
Allan replied happy.
"Yes, and we are still rockin' it"
Anton was so concentrated, he had not realized his body was fully healed and his right foot was back. Ashley and Allan started to talk about their relationship, while Anton saw his foot.
"The metal! It's not there and my foot is back! Thanks Ashley, I guess it was you."
Ashley looked at Anton again.
"It was nothing. You are quite stupid to realize it so late. Anyway, Giuseppe thinks he was a mafia member, but he can't remember it well. I guess, you will now ask how have we met together?"
Anton approved with his head. Ashley continued.
"Every 28 February of every year, a new experiment may appear in a certain place, in the "Black Forest" in Germany. We wait for him or her, explain the reality here, and . . . they join us. So, firstly there was Derek and then Giuseppe. Then John and then me and Allan. None knows when has Jason joined the group. But, there has been no other experiment since Marc."
Anton recalled that name.
"Marc. Yes, Allan told me he created a time machine or something . . . a fourth dimension, I think."
"Yes, Marc. Or should I say . . . you"
Anton's head started to hurt again.
"Why do I feel this strange headache! Wait, me?"
Anton wanted to relax and think. He made a sign to the squad to open a place for him. Ashley showed him were to sit. Although Anton still couldn't see the bench, he could feel the softness of it. None was speaking a word.
. . .
Jenny was driving fast. The wind was blowing her black long hair like a dandelion. She was so deep in her thoughts, she wasn't paying any attention to the traffic lights, but fortunately there were not many cars around. The speed of her Mercedes was increasing, as it was leaving the city of Princeton. Jenny knew that Marc was working inside the factory outside the city. After a short time, she arrived at the factory. She stopped the car and walked to the entrance.
. . .
Anton finally decided to speak again.
"I am Marc? I can't remember anything. But, what happened?"
Suddenly, Scarlett stood up and looked at Anton. Her eyes seemed to be filled full of disappointment and anger.
"You are not a newcomer. You can't join us now Anton! You have already joined us long ago. Your real name is Marc, not Anton, but since you arrived in this world, decided to have a new name instead. You were part of us since 4 years ago. You, Allan and Ashley fell in an illusion that Derek created. They got out immediately, but you. Lost for 4 years!"
At that time Anton was completing his puzzle, when Scarlett started to shout.
"4 years! Where have you been? Why did you leave us! What did you do?!"
Allan mumbled to himself.
"Here it goes."
. . .
Brian's eyes were still opened, but his body was now lying like dead in a sofa. The illusion was so strong, Brian's real face was sweating. Next to the sofa, on the left side, Jason found a place to sit. His real body looked deformed and his face looked ugly and old. On the right side, there could be seen a tall man, sitting on a chair. He wore a black, expensive suit. It seemed he enjoyed black colors. His face was hidden under a carnaval mask. The mask looked like it came from old venetian times. The black feathers of it were rising a little above his mask. Jason talked with his old strange voice.
"What are we going to do now Derek?"
The tall man replied with his evil, but quite young voice.
"Just wait Jason. He needs more time. Then, our Brian will be the perfect pawn. After all . . . we have all the time we need."
Derek's eyes were hidden behind the mask, but the evilness hidden inside them could be seen clearly.
. . .
The doctor was still looking at the monitors. His head was hurting a lot, so he decided he should do something to relax himself. Greg went upstairs to prepare something to drink.
