Alastor's POV~
It took us about an hour to get dressed, head to the kitchen to grab a quick bite of breakfast. There were more demons working the hallways and such today. Last night, all but the necessary beings were kept out of sight. I'm thankful that all servants know when to keep the murmurs to themselves. Or risk the consequences for disrespecting Queen Lilith's home.
However, there is no shielding the view of working sinners. Most of them work alongside the staff. Then there are the Royal toys in their array of nudity. Scurrying past us to do what they do best, to entertain and enjoy.
Finding Constance at the doors she greets us with a dip of their chin. Holding out her left palm up flat, grazing the fingers of her right hand across the tips of her left repeatedly a few times. Dropping her hands awaiting a response, I quirk a brow, being caught off guard. I glance at Ember who appears to be just as puzzled.
"Yes, Constance?" I ask, opening up the dialogue between us.
The maid smiles, holding up her right hand tapping her upper cheek with its pinkie, into pointing at both Ember and I.Then placing her fist together only to pull them apart and her fingers going wide. Lifting both hands up with the left slightly higher fingers closed like a flower bud. She opens them and brings her elbows in.
I am mesmerized by the signs. Constance has done well to learn how to communicate with alternative ways. While I'm kicking myself internally for not paying attention more, or joining in on the lessons available within the castle.
We stand there like deer in headlights. "I..." I trail off before I get anywhere. Thankful for Ember here by my side.
She hums loudly, "If I understand correctly, and I'm taking a shot in the dark here," she pauses to glance up to me with a hint of worry, "I believe she signed something to let her know if we need help?" Cocking her head slightly with the cutest wrinkle of contemplation and thoughtfulness. "It's only a guess though."
"That was a good guess, Witch Ember."
The voice from behind us got our attention. Looking down to the main three of the triplets, Cecile. Standing there posed with a cold stern expression. A gentle clap coming from Constance. I look to see her gleaming to Ember. Giddy with excitement as she clasps my witches hands in hers. Nodding with a large smile.
Ember blushes, smiling to the demon who holds her hands. "I didn't even think I was close."
Nodding my head in the direction of Constance, "I will say you were at least close." Flashing Ember a smile.
"She told you in short: 'If you need anything, let me know.'" Cecile stops a few feet from us. "Here," she holds out a charm bracelet; simple yet elegant, "Witch Ember. you are to wear this or keep it on your person."
"Why?" Ember and I asked in unison.
Constance's shoulders shimmy with a silent giggle. Cecile sighs keeping her chin down, "In case of getting lost, or well, worse case scenario. It will allow us to track and find you."
I wrinkle my nose feeling the unspoken punch to my gut. "Am I not enough of a guard now?" I spoke my words without thinking them over. With a harsh tone from the chip on my shoulder.
"No. You aren't." Cecile doesn't miss a cold unmoving beat, and it stings.
Scoffing softly feeling the attack for what it was. The truth. I wasn't enough all that time ago. I hate the bitter taste of failure.
Ember clasps the bracelet of gold chain and burgundy gemstones on her wrist. "I appreciate the thought." Looking over the trinket shaking her wrist before lowering her hand to her side. "Thank you."
