Alastor's POV~

A swirl of terrifying thoughts and feelings threatening to grip at my throat. I keep the mask on tight. Walking out the old oak front door it slammed itself shut, the twist of locks moving into place. Suffocating darkness weighed down on my lungs. Softly and slowly tightening its hold on me. Unable to speak, harder to breathe, as I slumped my shoulders down in defeat.

Crystal blue, hazel brown, and void black.

Glancing down the steps, over the foot path below. I am met with three sets of eyes. Each belongs to a friend. They all varied wildly throughout the emotional spectrum. Samual deep crystal blue were tired and sad. Cozbi blacked out sockets that once held rings of their own, cold and distant. Damien looked up to me as an equal thankfully. His stern hazel brown eyes are full of understanding and remorse.

Looking back to that old oak door with its stained glass window. Coloring, and distorting the image behind it. A heavy breath leaves me feeling hollow. My stomach turns leaden with its contents. I had blood on my hands from my rage, and now I must stand tall to face impending consequences.

My failure.

Once the garden gate closed behind us. Samual waved goodbyes, as an Uber came for her. Hidden in the shadows, cursing my lack of disguise magic.

Damien held onto my friend tightly by her waist. Uncaring about what the siren he held appeared like. Cozbi flashed me a silent command to give them a moment.

Grumbling, I turn my back looking away from them. Flashes of a past long ago; as I gave her, an unknown demon at the time, a similar moment. A last moment to see faces of those who once cared. She happily gave me the same borrowed time tonight.

Now after centuries have passed she must walk me to my end. If I'm even deemed worthy of a quick death for the transgressions. We have clear laws, and I broke a sacred law. Their murmurs flew into my ears.

"Are you sure there is nothing? I— we— can find a place for the fool." Damien's hushed puzzling questions.

"No, this is something unavoidable, he broke a law. I've held off the others as long as I could." She lets out a sigh, "Now I must take him to face the ramifications."

"It's just," he paused, "everything he did was for Em, to save her."

"I can't promise, but I'm sure it'll work out." Cozbi's words are painted with annoyance. "It'll be okay Wolfie."

The need to chime in my thoughts on this matter. "I knew the law, I broke it anyway—" heaving a heavy breath looking at the second store window, "I had killed. I must face this. Alone." Willing with my thoughts, I want my witch to look out. To see me, to see her. Worrying my bottom lip as the lights turned off.

"This is bullshit!" He snapped. Forcing my body to turn, facing the snarling beast. "You only did what you did to keep her safe! To protect her!" Huffing out with clear frustration, "Or do you not love her after all." He trailed off with venom dropping on those last words.

"Damien!" Cozbi shouted. "That is enough."

"But— I—" he stopped by her hand.

"I said, enough," she pulled his hands to her, pulling his gaze to look at her, "that's the end of it."

"Ember was happy." Damien shakes his head in denial, "She— She has to understand on some level." Pressing his forehead to hers.

A heartbeat of silence before Cozbi spoke again, "now this isn't easy for me either." Cocking her head in a nervous sort of way, "In a way we've been in a similar, yet opposite, position just centuries ago."
