Alastor's POV~
Ember ran, before I or the others could say a thing. Running out with such a flash of speed. Our feet nailed to the floor out of sheer shock. The horrifying look of a lost answer being found. Stricken me with undeniable fear in the pit of my stomach.
All three of us screamed after her. Calling her name at varying volumes. Samual, Damien and I, are left wondering what we should do.
Looking at each other, eyes darting around, there was just minor work left to be done. It could wait right? A battle rages within my mind. Torn between running after my witch, or taking care of things here quickly and acting as support. Second guessing our random hypothesis and theorizing.
They are like any other fanatics. All talk— no substance. Right?
No one in this town would be so unhinged as to actually do any real harm. With all their mean glares, icy shoulders, looking down their noses. The type to clique together in their heads in the sand. My thoughts spiral, deep thinking on my experiences with sinners of all backgrounds. Especially those of the religious crusades.
She is able to protect herself. Ember is very capable, powerful in her own right.
A lump in my throat grows bigger with each passing moment. Releasing a heavy sigh of worry. My own indecisiveness only acts as fuel to my doubts. Clenching the shirt on my chest. I squeeze my fist tight until it hurts. This heart of mine is racing through like a bolt of lightning.
Closing my eyes, pressing my thumb and index on the bridge of my nose. Thinking the seconds away. I need to calm down and think this through. Breathe. Shutting out the world around me. Samuals and Damien's bickering shouts overtake any semblance of peace.
Maddening as it was, I needed to decide now. I had to take the lead and make a decision. Thinking to my witch, her strength— her heart— what would she do? Listening to Samual and Damien taking what they have to say to heart.
"We need to go after her!" Damien howled.
"Damien!" Samual hollered.
Damien gave no room, "She could be running into a trap!!!" Throwing everything down in a rush.
Samual looking irritatingly confused, "Damien!" The tall mortal screamed. "Wait. I've lived here all my life. Yeah the bigoted dumbasses have always been aâ€" a," she paused to fix her glasses fumbling into a soft whisper, "a permanent fixture."
"This isn't the fucking time to be logical Sam!" Damien snapped, nostrils flared as his eyes flicker gold. His wolf is itching to get out. "Those asses attacked the shop today!" Gesturing around with his hands. "Vandalizing our workplace. Ember's business and sanctuary."
"No, Damien, this is exactly the time." Samual stood firm in her beliefs.
Damien crossed his arms, "Alright, then. Go on," gesturing to Samual to take center stage, "defend the actions today and explain why we shouldn't be running after her right now."
She bites her bottom lip, fisting her hands at each side, "They are just arrogant assholes." Samual huffs out a bitter breath, "Not bloodthirsty monsters." Stretching her arm out towards the vandalized door. "They are petty criminals at best. Trying to put on a big show to scare us. Why are you even jumping to these conclusions?" Samual throwing out such a hard question for either of us to answer.
No, it's all our fault for keeping her in the dark.
It's not her fault that she has been kept in the dark. Kept naive of the world that's really surrounding her. On an almost daily basis at that. Sighing heavily as I found myself picking a side.
