Ember's POV~
(Two Years Later)
"Oh by the gods," Cozbi is hollering with a string of curses strung along the following. "We need to hurry up, and get going."
Samual popped up a brow, "this kind of thing takes time." Taking a bolstering look at the siren. Her glasses slipped down her nose to sit where the bridge meets the tip. "Why are you even here? This is the bridal party, not grooms."
Cozbi shrugged while taking a deep drink of champagne, "You think I want to be with an overthinking groom? Instead of this group in the height of this glorious chaos?" Feigning a dramatic hurt with a hand placed over her heart. "It's not my fault he proposed right after the house construction was finished! The fool was a blubbering idiot with nerves over a guaranteed thing." Dramatically throwing her webbed hands up in disbelief. Everyone in the room began to laugh over the sirens' antics.
It's been a long two years, first the house reconstruction, then the new Amethyst & Tomes remodel. Including renovating the attached upstairs apartment for personal use at first. Now Cozbi lives there, commuting back and forth between her two jobs. Granted, is being a general of the military under Lilith, really a job? The question had me puzzling briefly, getting lost as soothing motions of a brush calm me.
Today was a day for nothing else, but Alastor and I. To celebrate and take a giant leap. Their bantering peacefully faded into the background. Lulling myself into remembering the day the house, our new home, was completed and ready for us. Him getting not on one knee, but surprising me with a spray kitten. An adorably small calico girl. Who had clearly been taken care of by him in secret for this moment. Her little collar had a tiny rune charm and next to that a note that read. 'Be my Freyja. Kittens and all.' It made my heart flutter as I saw the simple ring. A silver band, no gems, in the design of a witch's knot. Made of four grasping forms called vesica piscis. A symbol for protection.
It was perfectly simple. Magical in my eyes as it just felt right. The new baby was named Freyja right then. Thankfully the others happily adopted her as part of our family.
Now I'm sitting here, in hell, in one of the queen's suites with Samual, Cozbi, Lilith, Cecile, Constance and Cadence. Ilmatar and the fae neighbors were getting the decorations ready. The Queen didn't take no for an answer as she offered a space to get ready without peeping-toms— or grooms. Unable to stop smiling as my cheeks hurt.
Soon enough the bickering between Samual and Cozbi rammed into her like a brick wall. They were not actually going back and forth about whether Samual should try dating someone supernatural, were they? Much to the embarrassment written on Samual's face. Keeping her cool, but I see that crease between her brows. She was about to throw hands with the siren. Even if it meant she was unmatched for the mini piranha.
"Alright you two, that's enough antagonizing each other." I call out over my shoulder. Finding it hard not to laugh at them.
"What did I do?" Cozbi nearly yelled, while taking a flute of what I assume is Lust equivalent to champagne from Cadence. "Tall, blonde, and brainy amazon over here started it."
"No." Samual came into the conversation. Tapping her foot with annoyance. "You always start it by being impatient."
Cozbi stuck out her tongue, earning that giggle I was trying to suppress. Gaining their attention again, eyes with varying intensities of concern. Lilith sat in a high-backed cushion chair. The triplets just had an aura of bland boredom. Cozbi looked unamused by the reaction. Samual took the lead taking steps to a rack full of apparel and pulled a garment bag off.
Walking to me as I sit her on a lush cushion bench seat. Constance's long fingers gracefully adding the finishing touches to my hair. Thank gods for the mirror that allowed me to see all.
