Rin’s POV
We were all crammed into Shirou’s tiny house, the atmosphere as chaotic as ever. Sataro leaned back in his chair, casually scrolling through his phone. He looked around Shirou’s house and made a comment that somehow managed to be both annoying and accurate.
“Well, this place is kinda different from the setting in from soul corridor information about your house from Archer , don’t you think?”
Shirou blinked in confusion, his eyes darting between me and Sataro. “soul corridor what? What the hell is that?”
Before I could even begin to explain, Astolfo jumped in, grinning like an idiot. “Oh yeah, my last Grail War, Saber wasn’t Artoria it was Mordred. Total bad girl attitude, but kinda fun.”
Artoria, who was standing off to the side, crossed her arms and scowled at the mention of Mordred. I could practically feel the tension rising.
Meanwhile, Shirou stared at us like we’d all lost our minds. I could tell he was trying to wrap his head around the fact that not only was Sataro the otaku who never studied and still topped the class is also a magus?, but I was too. The guy really had no idea what he’d been thrown into.
I sighed, already feeling the headache creeping in. “Alright, Shirou, listen up. We’re magi. There’s a war going on. It’s called the Holy Grail War, and Servants like Saber here fight for us. Got it?” I explained, but I was already annoyed.
He blinked at me, completely lost. Of course, this idiot wasn’t going to get it right away. I was too tired to keep explaining, so I just pulled out my phone from the Cocoon of Finality(completely fan girl of honkai), my personal subspace where I stored important stuff like magical jewels and, apparently, a phone.
I shoved the phone into Shirou’s hand, opened YouTube, and pulled up videos of Fate/Stay Night, FGO, and every other Fate game I could think of. “Here, watch this. It’s easier than me talking.hmpf your lucky I stored it in cocoon finality”
Sataro snorted from the corner. “You named your personal dimension Cocoon of Finality? Really, Rin? Could you be more of a fangirl? Just admit you’re obsessed with Honkai Impact already.”
My eye twitched. “Honkai is the best game ever, you jerk!”
“No, it’s not,” Artemis chimed in with a smug grin. “D&D is the best game ever, and everyone knows it.”
Archer leaned in, clearly enjoying the opportunity to mess with me. “Nah, World of Darkness is way better than Honkai.”
Meanwhile, Medea was sitting on the floor, looking utterly confused. “What… what is a video game? Is it a type of magecraft?” She had my phone in her hand, trying to play a simple game on it, and failing miserably.
Astolfo was just as clueless. “What the hell is all this talk about video games? In my last war, we didn’t have anything like this.”
Shirou, still watching the Fate videos, finally spoke up. “If this game is so famous, how come no one at school ever talks about it?”
I rolled my eyes. “Because no one at our school is into over-the-top historical anime or games. They’re all into Marvel, DC, and other generic stuff. Plus, this timeline is different. In the game, it’s set in 2004, but here, everything’s happening in 2019. There are tons of differences.”
Shirou’s frown deepened, and he crossed his arms like a sulky child. “I wanted to study today. I’ve got homework from Shinjika... well, Shinji, but now she’s an arrogant girl instead of the whiny brat from the game. She’s more of a sadist now, and I don’t even know how to deal with it.”
Sataro, ever the troll, smirked at me. “Honkai still sucks, by the way.”
I shot him a death glare, but before I could say anything, Archer teamed up with him. “You know, Rin, Honkai really is trash.”
Artoria, who had apparently gotten curious, was trying out Honkai Impact herself. She gave me a small nod after a few minutes of playing. “Actually, I like it. There’s something strangely appealing about it.”
I smirked triumphantly, but that only made Sataro and Archer more determined to annoy me.
Shirou, after watching twelve hours’ worth of Fate videos, finally stood up, groaning. “So, let me get this straight. There’s a war going on, and it’s pretty much exactly like the game?”
“Pretty much,” I said, shrugging.
“That’s… so annoying.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Welcome to my world, Shirou.
Meanwhile, Kiana the tiny fairy who was still somehow dressed like Batman was flying around the room, swiping chips and biscuits that were three times her size. None of us knew where all that food was going, but we were too tired to care.
Artoria was still playing Honkai, now thoroughly invested. The fact that I had managed to convert the legendary King of Knights into a Honkai fangirl was probably the only thing that had gone right today.
But as I looked around at the chaos, from Saber fangirling over a game to Astolfo poking a confused Shirou, I couldn’t help but wonder if this whole Grail War was just one big joke. And, as much as I hated to admit it, I was starting to get used to the ridiculousness of it all.
I slumped back in my chair, my brain fried from the madness of the day.
“Rin,” Sataro said, grinning like an idiot, “you still have the worst taste in games.”
“Shut up.”
