✨Fluttering✨
The festive night had left a lasting warmth in Riya's heart, but as she woke up the next morning, the quietness of the cottage brought her back to reality. The festival was over, and now she had to face the real world again.
Stretching in bed, she smiled to herself, recalling the view Jungkook had shown her. The peacefulness of the hilltop had given her a sense of calm she hadn’t realized she needed. But now, there was something else brewing inside her: anticipation, mixed with a bit of nervousness.
Her relationship with Jungkook was official, and while that filled her with excitement, she wasn’t sure what came next. They hadn’t spoken about what would happen once they returned to their normal lives back at the university. Would things be the same? Or would their new status change everything?
As if on cue, her phone buzzed on the nightstand. She reached over and picked it up, smiling when she saw Jungkook's name pop up on the screen.
Jungkook: Morning, sleepyhead. You up for breakfast?
Riya: Good morning! Yeah, I’m up. Breakfast sounds perfect. What are you thinking?
Jungkook: I was thinking we could head into town, grab some pancakes. I know a place you’ll love.
Her heart skipped a beat. She loved that Jungkook was making plans with her so effortlessly, as if they had been a couple forever.
Riya: I’m in. See you in 10?
Jungkook: 10 it is, princess.
Riya smiled at the nickname. He had started calling her that more frequently since the night of the festival, and while part of her wanted to roll her eyes at how cheesy it sounded, another part of her found it endearing.
After getting dressed, she made her way downstairs to find Grandma already bustling around the kitchen, humming softly to herself. The smell of fresh bread and tea filled the air.
“Morning, dear,” Grandma greeted her with a warm smile. “Going out with Jungkook?”
Riya nodded, still feeling a bit shy under Grandma’s knowing gaze. “Yeah, we’re grabbing breakfast in town.”
“That boy sure likes spending time with you,” Grandma teased lightly, a twinkle in her eye. “I haven’t seen him this happy in a long time.”
Riya blushed, not knowing how to respond. She felt the same way about Jungkook, but it was still new—exciting, but new.
Just as she was about to reply, there was a knock at the door. Riya’s heart jumped, and she hurried to answer, knowing exactly who it would be.
Jungkook stood there, looking effortlessly cool in his leather jacket and jeans, his dark hair slightly tousled from the wind. His eyes softened when he saw her, and he flashed a small grin.
“Ready?” he asked.
Riya nodded, grabbing her coat. “Let’s go.”
They made their way down the snow-covered path toward town, the air crisp and refreshing. It wasn’t long before they reached the small pancake diner Jungkook had mentioned. The cozy little place was tucked away in the corner of the village, its windows fogged from the warmth inside.
As they sat down at a booth near the window, Riya glanced around, taking in the simple charm of the place. The smell of fresh pancakes and syrup filled the air, making her stomach rumble.
“So,” Jungkook said, breaking the silence as he handed her a menu. “What’s on your mind?”
Riya hesitated, not sure how to put her thoughts into words. “I was just... thinking about what happens next,” she admitted softly.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, his expression curious. “Next? What do you mean?”
“I mean... us. When we go back to university. How are things going to change?” Riya asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Jungkook leaned back in his seat, his gaze steady on her. “Riya, nothing has to change unless we want it to. I’m serious about you. That’s not going to disappear just because we’re back at school.”
Riya bit her lip. “I know. It’s just... this feels different from anything I’ve experienced before. I’ve never been in a relationship, and sometimes it feels like everything is moving so fast.”
Jungkook reached across the table, taking her hand in his. “Hey, we’ll go at your pace. I’m not going to rush you. If you need time, that’s okay. I’m here, Riya.”
His words reassured her, and the warmth of his hand in hers made her feel grounded again. She smiled, squeezing his hand lightly. “Thank you. I guess I just needed to hear that.”
They ordered their pancakes, and as they waited for their food, the conversation shifted to lighter topics. Jungkook teased her about her lack of cooking skills, and Riya fired back by joking about his messy dorm room.
When the pancakes arrived, piled high with syrup and fresh fruit, they dug in, the lighthearted atmosphere between them easing any tension Riya had felt earlier.
“So,” Jungkook said after a while, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. “Are you ready for my next surprise?”
Riya raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Another surprise? You’re full of those lately.”
He leaned forward, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “You’ll love this one. After breakfast, we’re going ice skating.”
Riya blinked in surprise. “Ice skating? I’ve never been ice skating.”
Jungkook grinned. “Exactly. Which is why it’s going to be fun.”
Riya wasn’t entirely sure about that, but the excitement in his eyes was contagious. After finishing their breakfast, they headed to the village’s frozen lake, where a small ice-skating rink had been set up for the festival.
Jungkook helped her lace up the skates, and soon they were on the ice. Or rather, Jungkook was gliding smoothly across the surface while Riya clung to the railing, wobbling unsteadily.
“Come on, you can do it,” Jungkook encouraged, skating circles around her with an amused grin.
Riya shot him a glare. “Easy for you to say. You’re not the one who’s about to fall flat on their face.”
Laughing, Jungkook skated over and gently took her hands, pulling her away from the railing. “I’ve got you. Just trust me.”
With his hands steadying her, Riya slowly started to find her balance. They skated around the rink, and though she stumbled a few times, Jungkook was always there to catch her, his grip strong and reassuring.
After a while, Riya started to relax, laughing as they glided together across the ice. The cold wind whipped at their faces, but the warmth between them kept her from feeling the chill.
By the time they finished, Riya’s legs were sore, but her heart was light. She hadn’t realized how much fun ice skating could be, especially with Jungkook by her side.
As they walked back to the cottage, hand in hand, Riya glanced up at him, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. Maybe things wouldn’t be so complicated after all.
Maybe, with Jungkook, everything would fall into place.
